Otago & Southland's biggest independent garden retailer. We've been in the gardening business for over 40 years, but can actually trace our history back over 150 years.

This place goes without saying. Very popular. Foods delicious . The queue to get into the cafe each time I've been there is lined up out into the shop. I think this place speaks for itself. Parking , if you can't get a park out the front you can park up the driveway beside the building which leads to a big parking area round the back. It's a place not to miss .. 10 out of 10.
Great food, nice friendly staff. Really popular cafe so you either need to book a table or get there before midday to beat the crowds. Plenty of free parking. The shop has a good variety of cabinet food.
It is a nice shop to wander if you like plants, they have really large range covering most different growing conditions. It has an interesting gift shop too, and a small but decent Cafe.
I really love Nichols... The Dunedin store has such a variety ... Beautiful plants, nice range of pots and garden ornaments, everything your pet needs, a few pets for sale, gifts for everyone and a great cafe! I recommend the lemon meringue pies
My friend chose here for lunch. Sadly, they don't really cater for plant-based eaters is it just me that thinks that's funny for a garden centre?? Despite having lots of fresh vegan food available fresh salads, avocado, they combined 99% of it with meat and dairy. There was an expensive salad on the menu and nothing in the cabinet. They don't even carry a dairy free spread for toast.
Great Cafe beside a lovely gift shop and garden centre. Perfect combination!
I got a load of "top soil" a few weeks ago. Very disappointed . What I got was clay . After rain a hard crust formed. When I questioned the firm the man on the tractor he said it was Wanaka river silt. River silt is rock ground up by nature to a powder. This is not top soil. Never again. Five star rubbish
There is always something interesting to see at Nicholls. I love photographing there. There are some pets to take home. The food is by The Good Oil -delicious.
Good food,great range of garden products. Can be challenging to find staff for assistance and don't recommend sitting in the main Cafe as too noisy.
Louise was a rockstar helping us, not only sourcing plants from their Cromwell store but finding other plants to make our vision come alive. Cheers Louise!
