Newstead House is the perfect spot for picnics, featuring a gentle hill and a spacious grass area overlooking the Brisbane River. It offers ample parking and brand new, clean toilets with hand washing facilities. The area is well lit at night, ensuring safety and convenience. Additionally, the museum component of the house and gardens has recently reopened after extensive renovations and is well worth a visit. Highly recommended for a relaxing and enriching day out.
Had a laid-back afternoon at Newstead House. The heritage of the place is clear from the moment you walk in, with the rooms full of antique furniture and décor. It’s a bit like stepping back in time, which was pretty cool. The gardens around the house were nice to wander through, though I wouldn’t say the place kept the kids entertained for too long. All in all, it’s a decent spot for a calm family day out.
Pretty place to wander around, lost a star from Chairman Meow who didn't appreciate the spikey grass. Not good eating.
Beautiful location on a bend in the river giving expansive views. Great spot for a picnic or a wedding! with lush grassy areas, shaded areas, easy to get to by bike. Some limited parking nearby. The House is definitely worth visiting. Make sure you join in on a tour with a volunteer guide. There’s some really interesting history with significant visitors along the way. Look out for the ‘Lucinda’ chair - it’s providence is linked to Australia’s Constitution!
An amazing guided school tour with Year 2 kids. Mr. Harris had the children captivated. Brilliant.Visited onWeekdayReservation recommendedNot sure
Newstead House According to history, this house was built in 1846 located On the northern bank of the Brisbane River at Breakfast Creek. It is the oldest surviving home in Brisbane. It is now a museum, open to public. They have weddings, concerts, high tea but currently it is temporary close. Visitors can enjoy its beautiful surroundings, it’s a lovely place to have a walk, or a picnic.
Newstead house has a lot of history about the the house and the grounds. The grounds are immaculate and perfect which I think is very good. Inside the house their is a lot of history to get your head around but how the house is setup it is perfect. The house and grounds are beautiful in every way. But their is only one problem their is not enough parking and even when their is the driveway is too small and it is hard to park and if you park on the street you have to pay. Other than that the grounds are immaculate and they are beautiful. Good job keeping the grounds beautiful you should be proud
Beautiful heritage property which I visited recently as part of Brisbane Open House. Very well restored and easy to wander through to view the various rooms and appreciate the architecture and reflect on how people lived in that pre-federation era. Well maintained facilities for other public use including walks, picnis etc.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
