Food was very prompt from ordering to the table. The waitress and waiter there are very fluent in English which made ordering and asking questions really easy and comfortable. There's an outside section as well as an inside section. We were a table of 11 people so we were able to find a large table outside that seated all of us. The food was all delicious. We ordered an assortment of dumplings, shang hai buns as well as rice and Noodles. The dumplings were very well made. Normally some dumplings made in other restaurants are very poorly made so when you pick it up it breaks apart very easily. Proportions of the dumplings were very generous with most servings consisting of 8-10 pieces of dumplings which is a great amount for families or couples.
Dumplings were average. The eel was great, they also have jellyfish on the menu which i will try next time. Drunken chicken was fantastic.
Lunch @NewShanghai @CharlestownSquareOfficial and really in the mood for dumplings. 201 Xiao Long Bao - ooh yum, lovely delicate dumplings holding a delicious broth 205 Pot Sticker: pan fried pork dumplings - loved the crunch on the outside where it was fried and the delicious pork filling inside. A touch of vinegar makes it even better. Also got takeaway to sample some of the menu: 402 Braised Beef Noodle Soup - love the 5 spice flavoursome broth smothering the noodles and the ultra tender chunks of beef. I want more broth! 414 XO Sauce Fried Rice - tasty fried rice on point with flavour 511 Slow Braised Pork Belly with Sweetened Soy Sauce - love the tender pork belly but would have liked the far to have been rendered, it's a bit jarring having gooey fat against tasty pork. 516 Crispy Skin Chicken with Garlic and Chilli Sauce - lovely roast chicken with subtle flavours 702 Shanghai Sweet Red Bean Pancakes - light flaky pastry encasing a smooth red bean mix, I quite liked the dessert Chef's Recommendations: Steamed Sweet Custard Buns - these are very tasty, a light bao like bun encasing a just sweetened custard. Keep coming back for more The dumplings were their strong point. The takeaway, whilst not enjoyed at their optimum when freshly made, wasn't as inspiring with less flavour and oomph that I was expecting. Still, quite tasty food. @NewShanghai @CharlestownSquareOfficial #ChineseFood #dumplings #pork #beefnoodlesoup #porkbelly #crispychicken #friedrice #dessert #redbeanpancake #custardbun #sweettooth #foodie #newcastle #newcastlensw #newcastleaustralia @newcastle_nsw_Australia #newcastlefoodies #newcastlefoodie #newyfoodie #newyeats #novacastrian @zomatoaus
Soup no flavour, pot stickers cooked in old oil. We eat at new Shanghai in Melbourne often and the food here is nowhere near as good. Bring on the flavour. Don't waste your money. Go to dumpling story instead
Best Pan fried pork dumplings our second visit and they haven't disappointed yet
Friendly staff and prompt service. Food was delicious and serving sizes spot on. Shanghai stir fried noodles with pork & vegetables.
Good selection of Chinese food and delicious dumplings! Big selection of non alcoholic drinks and some good wines!
The best dumplings I have ever had. I don't know how authentic they are but they are tasty. Their fried rice is my favourite out of all the places I go to and their food is consistently good. Sometimes the service is slow when busy but not for ages.
Food was ok but serving sizes are quite small. For the prices they charge you would expect much larger meals. The dumplings are good. Most places would bring out a soup first but not here, it comes last. If you get the sweet corn and chicken soup make sure you eat it quick as it turns to a bowl of jelly when it cools down. I wont be coming back here again.
Busy place! Not your usual Chinese menu. Different but nice. Very pleasant decor, good ambience and reasonably priced. We ordered too much as portions are very generous. 3 doggy bags to go! Downside - although the staff were very courteous we waited over half an hour for our food and it all came together ie starters and mains!!
