National Anzac Centre

Story

Opened on the 1st of November 2014 by the Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand, The National Anzac Centre is an award-winning facility that uses multimedia, interactive technology and historical artefacts to create a deeply personal connection with the past, as well as pay tribute to those who served. The interpretive content that forms part of the interactive experience was developed by the Western Australian Museum and the Australian War Memorial and is delivered via a series of interactive visual and audible displays. The experience is known for commemorating the war through the stories of the ANZACs as opposed to telling its own story via pro-war or anti-war sentiments.

The centre combines traditional museum display and exhibition techniques with highly interactive, multi-media content. To navigate and interpret this content visitors assume the identity of one of 32 actual service men or women, and follow their experience of the Great War: from recruitment, through training and embarkation, ship-board life on the convoys, the conflicts at Gallipoli, the middle east and the Western Front and for those lucky enough to survive, their return home and the difficulties they faced adjusting back into normal society.

In 2016 the National Anzac Centre was named Number 1 Museum in Australia by TripAdvisor.

The National Anzac Centre is open every day of the year (except Christmas Day) between 9am and 5pm with last entry at 4pm. It is recommended to allow at least 2 hours for the experience.

What a great place to visit, so much information, we enjoyed learning about our soldiers. Great views also
I seriously love going to check out historical places! The shivers that I get when I'm standing in places and reading plaques where our diggers stood over a hundred years ago, blow my mind! Also, how's the view?
This is world class. A magnificent concept, allowing one to follow the footsteps of an Anzac of choice. A truly memorable experience, brilliantly, sensitively and honestly portrayed. If you do nothing else, see this. Lest we forget.
Great Center and facilities. Only thing is everything in only in English. I understand most international tourists might be comfortable with it, but having an option at least in the audio guide in some other main languages would be a good add on.
Full of amazing information, maps and pictures. The self guided tour is very informative. Lots to do and learn. Lest we forget.
Amazing place to visit one of the best of been to there is heaps to see. You'll need plenty of time to enjoy the walk around and to go inside the Anzac Centre
