Really 4.5 stars. I don't give 5 stars easily Muzza left some years back but passed the torch to the current baker who has kept the gourmet flame burning. I must say that the pastry is outstanding. There seems to be about 25 different kinds of pies. Today it was chicken and mushroom was was good but my fave so far is tandoori chicken. For me it must be washed down with a Bundy ginger beer. I hear the sausages roils are special but so far I can't go past the pies. The pies are $7 a throw so you would expect a quality article. The service is very friendly and I would walk an extra kilometer to get a Muzza pie.
Motivated by good ratings, I decided to visit this pie shop during lunch break. I had the one of the worst pies I ever had. Filling was totally boring, soggy and ugly. The apple pie was just way too sweet. Prices are pretty high as well. Additionally, I had some stomach issues afterward.
Went on a little pie crawl and our first stop was Muzza's Gourmet Pies in Coorparoo. Their best sellers are reportedly the various chunky steak options, but we were also recommended the chicken, brie & asparagus pie $6, and that's what we went with. The boy wanted a party pie $2 so we got one of those too. Verdict: kinda wished we went with a chunky steak option instead, cos this chicken pie, whilst an ok choice, wasn't a real standout. The brie wasn't too obvious, but then again I guess it's not a strong cheese to begin with. The pastry itself was pretty good - flaky top and sides/base not too dense. With all pies at $6 or less, I'd be happy to return and try some other flavours.
Our daughters purchased 2 steak and mush pies - vanilla slice and spinach triangle. Pie - 2 out of 5 Vanilla slice - gross - O out of 5 Best pie in Brisbane? - NOT
Good pies seem to be really hard to find in Brisbane but the pastry used here is fabulously flaky. The mince/cheese and cheese/steak are a hit in this household but for me, the chicken and mushroom wins every time. The broccoli and cauliflower triangles are so good too - they may sound odd but are so enjoyable. Yum. I also like that you can buy frozen pies for $3.00 and packs of pasties or sausage rolls for $5 too they make for a low effort dinner or delicious snack.
First time @ Muzza’s & definitely will be back. We had the chicken Brie & asparagus pie and the beef chilli & cheese. Loved the chicken pie for its actual gravy rather than mornay & the Brie really comes thru.
Not being local we visited Muzza's for lunch today. I had a ham and salad roll which was very nice, the coleslaw was a pleasant surprise. My husband had a chunky beef and mushroom pie. He said the pastry was lovely and the filling was really tasty. The guy that served us was friendly. Definitely recommend.
I love coming to muzzas. they have an awesome selection of meat and veg pies as well as delicious deserts and sandwiches. the pies have flaky pastry and beautiful fillings, always exactly what you’re looking for. the sandwiches are made with fresh bakery bread that tastes sooo good, and the egg and lettuce has juicy, crispy pieces of lettuce with substance. all their food really hits the spot. you can also pick up frozen savoury and sweet pies in both small and family sizes, which I love. my next party is going to be fed by muzzas pies for sure! this review is a bit gushing but only because muzzas is seriously an institution. I can’t visit the area without getting a pie and neither should you!
Worse sausage roll I’ve ever eaten. Literally a average sausage in pastry. Don’t even bother with the vanilla slice… very poor food.
Real meat pies! Hits the mark on all three factors of pie judging: base, filling and pastry. Yummy.Food: 5/5
