Definitely an experience to add to your bucketlist whilst in Tasmania. Personally- the actual museum was not overly impressive. The artwork was mediocre and overall 2 hours is more than ample time to experience the museum + return ferry ride. Getting there: we went by ferry which was a joyful and picturesque ride we went standard - not the Posh Pit and paid $25 return. You can buy your tickets online which I recommend in the peak season we visited in December as the ques will have you waiting over 20 minutes. Trip is ~25minutes each way and you need to select your departure and return time. This is important as once on the island changing your return ticket time is very tricky when busy. There is a box office on the island to change your return time if needed. Museum: tickets were $35 adult All up, a $60 day trip with the ferry. We actually preferred the outdoor artwork, lookout points and entertainment/food/drinks on the hill which you can enjoy without am entry ticket to the museum. There is not a lot of shade, so pack your hat and sunscreen. Definitely would return but as a lunch or evening trip to enjoy drinks and food and entertainment on the hill and bypass the museum.
An absolutely stunning experience for the senses is perhaps the only proper way to describe my experience here. The art, the sounds, the magic they create with light or darkness and spider webs, amongst many other things is just unbelievable. I would recommend a minimum of 3 hours to explore this place, although I reckon we could've spent 5 hours here easily! The staff were very knowledgeable and polite as well so overall a superb experience.
Interesting artworks and a beautiful building. However there are no signs/information displayed next to artworks - you have to use your phone and download an app, which I don’t think suits all age groups. Nice cafe inside. Car parking is very bad for such a popular attraction. 1-2 hours was plenty of time for us.
Wow. Just wow. Great curating! Interesting pieces and installations, mixing sight, sound, and a bit of motion. Wonderful app to guide and inform you. I will always remember this visit. Three hours was just right to see everything. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Everything was fantastic. MONA offers everything from the art experience to food and drinks with fantastic live music, wonderful architecture, nice ferry ride, made all the more enjoyable with great service. If you enjoy art, outdoor music, architecture, gardens, ferry rides, food, craft beers and more then MONA is worth a visit. My only regret is not having enough time to enjoy everything. I would recommend dedicating an entire day! It is worthwhile. Enjoy Safety: Staff were proactive and attentive. They ensured visitors were safe and attentive of their whereabouts at all times as some of the exhibitions were in very dark settings or narrow corridors. In addition, there was always a staff on hand to assist or share information. Walkability: The estate is accessible to all. There are elevators for those with accessibility issues and a wide 99 step from pier to Museum entry and gardens. The walkways are nice and wide. Food & drinks: Good variety of food and drinks and reasonably priced. The gardens are fantastic and there's plenty of space. There's also some interesting dishes. Noteworthy details: Everything was fantastic. MONA offers everything from the art experience to food and drinks with fantastic live music, wonderful architecture, a nice boat ride, made all the more enjoyable with great service.
Tasmania’s man made wonder. A cultural light bulb and we tourists are drawn to it like moths. And rightly so. The buildings and grounds themselves are a work of art, an architectural masterpiece and an engineering wonder. What’s inside is more impressive. Provocative and inspiring. Sublime and grotesque. It’s what good art should be.Wait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
Was interesting to visit, unfortunately not my cup of tea. I like the more classic types of art and art work. It's was packed today so pleased there were those who enjoyed the art and the interactive art works inside Mona . Varying options of food but book in well ahead of time as they book out quickly.Location: 5/5
Impressed by the whole concept of MONA - fascinating exhibits. You need to take time to really get the most out of the place and multiple visits are warranted. Great range of food and drinks there too. Ferry trip there is a great way to arrive.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
The gallery could be missed if you are on a budget, it was quirky, but not as 'must do' as a lot of people recommend on a trip to Hobart. Be sure to read up on the history of the guy who owns the place - I found that more interesting than most of the art. But the venue and surrounding gardens are worth a visit. There was live music and plenty of food options, all with a great view.
Great museum and experience overall. The location was brilliant and you can tell that no expense was spared in its construction and a lot of thought has gone into it. Some of the individual exhibitions were just amazing. One element that I was a little disappointed by was some of the experiences in the gallery were an additional $10 or $20 per person. After already paying a ferry ticket and paying for entry that is around $60-$70 per person, I don't feel you should be charged another $50 or $60 per person to experience everything that's in the actual museum.
