Good quality and tasty Cantonese food. I have eaten at Mr Ping's a few times and always had an enjoyable meal. Has some delicious Sweet and Sour Pork, Roast Pork and BBQ Duck with rice and some Spicy, tongue numbing Chicken in Szechuan Chilli Style. Went back to Mr Ping's for a big bowl of Wonton Noodle Soup. Yum
Overall - 2.5/5. I gave 2.5 because they served really fast but both the crab shell and fried rice was disappointing and overpriced. Best thing they served was the cold water. Salt and Pepper Soft Shell Crab $26.80 - 1/5. Was very very very overpriced for the 10 small pieces. The outercoating was so thick that i couldn’t even taste the crab. It was really oily and the portion was very less. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED, i dont think i will ever have this even if it $10 dollars, doesn’t justify the picture on the wall/menu AT ALL. Fried rice with chicken and preserved fish $16.80 - 2.5/5. Portion was good, Taste was okay, very stingy amount of meat, and it was really oily. Didnt feel fresh at all.
Definite Hong Kong flavours here. Stepping into the restaurant, you get a sense that you've been transported to HK - the aroma and sounds of a HK eatery. The servers speak Cantonese and if you can converse in this language you get the authentic HK experience. Don't mistake their curtness as rudeness. It's how they operate - quick and direct, no nonsense. Beware, nothing halal here. We had the Rice with Pork Belly and Preserved Vegetables, Deep Fried Dough Cruller, Congee with Boneless Roast Duck, Congee with Lean Pork and Preserved Egg and Fried Koay Teow. The Rice with Pork Belly and Preserved Vegetables was good. This was a sentimental dish with a home cooked feel - takes me back to the day when grandfather used to have this and as a kid, finding the soft slimy melty pork belly a bit weird, but it's now delicious! Congee was a bit disappointing as the congee may be in a large pot and just different flavours and ingredients thrown in as most restaurants would do, rather than each congee pot cooked with the specific ingredient to infuse those flavours. The cruller was good. Fried Koay Teow was awesome. Oily as it should be, with delicious 'wok hei'. Would come to eat again and try some other dishes.
Seriously if you only get one thing here get the yao tiao fried dough sticks. You normally eat them with congee but these are the BEST I've ever had, even better than back in HK. They are light on the inside and crispy on the outside. Super fresh, so they must be made per order and we've only ever ordered Uber Eats from them. We always get the pork and preserved egg congee classic - delicious.. and the kids love the fried vermicelli with chicken and salty fish minus the onions, bean sprouts and shallots or course . Kid-friendliness: Happy to oblige with removing certain ingredients from dishes.
This is the second time we've eaten at Mr Ping's and have been happy both times. The venue is neat and well presented. I love the design of the tea pot! I never realised pouring tea could be so pleasurable! We had a wonderful dining experience ordering Yangzhou styled Fried Rice, Hong Kong styled Beef Fillet and braided mushrooms. This took me back to my childhood, eating deliciously at large banquets during large family gatherings. I recommend having minimum 4 people so you can have a good variety of dishes to try. I was also impressed by the service of the wait staff. They were very helpful, polite and attentive to our needs. Even though English is clearly a second language, they were cheerful in their service and that communicated in ways that words cannot. Although it's quite a different offering to Chef's Gallery across the street Chef's Gallery is more edgy in their dishes, I prefer Mr Ping's purely because of the warmer, friendlier vibe and more traditional feel hit my soft spot. One piece of critical feedback from is to improve their pearl milk tea as it is bland.
Roast duck was good, not really gamey. Yangzhou rice serving was quite small. Sharkfin soup was fine but a bit salty. Hongkong Milk tea didn't have enough ice on it. But overall experience was good. Will be back.
The duck was amazing. Unfortunately the other things we ordered were far from it. The Shandong chicken had freezer burn taste. The fried rice was super oily, there was about 3 soup spoons of oil at the bottom of the bowl.
Great food. Great service. Great prices. Have never had a bad meal here and working through the menu over some time trying different things. Very fresh and tasty.
Beware in ordering the bbq pork with salted egg. The picture has two rows of bbq pork and one whole salted egg. The one they gave me only has one row of bbq pork and half of the salted egg. Also to use your card the minimum is $20. The lady at the counter is very rude and she didn't even apologiseFood: 1/5
Poor service, we ordered 4 dishes but somehow the waiting staff missed one, resulting in us still feeling hungry. The seafood congee seriously lacked flavour we had to add salt. Stir fried beef rice noodles were good, but the beef lo mein had too much sauce and thus was too salty. Table was a bit unclean when we were seated. Portion sizes were moderate but could've had more. For the prices they charge though, I'd recommend going to Sun Ming next door who also serve HK food: better taste, better service, cheaper price.
