Sending Rangers (parking cops) at 6:20PM to Balmoral Beach to book parents taking their kids to footy training is just low. Particulary with the Daniel Morcombe tragedy still pertinent. This council is a bunch of grubs.

Customer service is pretty bad. My one and thankfully only enquiry to the Council was handled unprofessionally. In March 2012 I submitted an enquiry about street cleaning activities on Harbour Street as we (and probably many others) had been woken up by street cleaning vehicles for several months at 5:00-5:30 in the morning up to twice a week during autumn and winter and once a week during the summer - passing several times on every occasion and regularly left stationary with the engine running. The street cleaning vehicle did pass within 5 metres of the front bedroom so noise and flashing lights were noticeable. With all the building work going on in the vicinity e.g. night time road works at Spit Junction and building works on the property between Vista Street it was quite a nosy area at times. It took two months to receive a response (in breach of their own customer service policy); one that was full of waffle, no acknowledgement or concern about the impact on amenity, and just very dismissive. I have no doubt that if the staff who drafted the response were living with the same level of nuisance they would take a different view. The Team Leader of Service Contracts John Saul clearly couldn’t care less. The gist of the letter was that the contract required street cleaning on Harbour Street to be undertaken between 4-6am as the street was too busy for cleaning to be done later and the few businesses on the street (half a dozen or so) had a right to the same level of service as all other businesses. I didn't disagree with the latter but I did with how the contract operated and their justification. The majority of the street is residential and importantly very quiet at night and during the early morning. They tried to justify their position by stating that Harbour Street has high numbers of pedestrians, high levels of traffic coming off Military Road and lots of on-street parking. I think they were confusing Harbour Street with Vista Street. The first two points are utter BS, which they would know if they actually bothered to assess the situation. It was very clear from experience that between 6-8 am was the optimal time for street cleaning vehicles as it coincided with the least number of cars parked on the street (people have left for work, etc), few pedestrians and not much through traffic. I called the Service Contracts team to ask them to assess the situation by actually undertaking a street assessment and requested that they contact me. Of course, I heard nothing more from them. Other Councils, e.g. Burwood, do listen to residents on this issue, but staff at Mosman clearly think no effort is required. Thankfully we vacated the property so don’t need to put up with this nonsense.

Mayor Peter Abelson's decision in November 2012 to scrap the decades-old traditions of singing Australian national anthem at Council meeting is a slap in rate payers face. Mayor Abelson should be sacked for trying to dump our Australian heritage. An official acknowledgement of Aboriginal owners, introduced to meetings in 2003, was kept.
