I've been to Montalto before but until today I had never experienced the set menu experience their restaurant offers. My wife and I were taken on a culinary journey. Every dish placed before us was rich in flavour and was perfectly complimented with wine. Montalto is a dining experience you won't forget.
We absolutely loved out visit to Montalto!! Even though we went only for the tasting as our time was very limited we got to enjoy the wine, the surroundings and the incredible service. We were absolutely delighted for the service of Michelle, she made us feel really special and she took care of every single detail. It is also really important to highlight the quality of the wines, which without a doubt is above and beyond. We can’t wait to receive our wines as of course we subscribed to the wine club, it is worth to have them at home!! Thank you for making our anniversary so memorable!
Lunch 9/7/22 Incredible as always, Second visit here and just as good as the great memories. The staff are the epitome of professional but so friendly and helpful at the same time. All of the dishes were incredible and the wine was amazing. The atmosphere in general is unbeatable with a lovely walk through their art garden.
A wine tasting experience like no other. Walking through the vineyard in between sculptures to our private location at half moon picnic ground. Upon arrive we found a picnic bench with assortment of dips, fresh prawns, cheese and crackers. Should mention one of the dishes was covered with ants, however we made a call and the plate was replaced with a fresh one and ant repellent was provided by one of the friendly staff. Fantastic overall experience on a beautiful sunny Melbourne day.
Had a beautiful lunch experience at the restaurant here, hit a bit of bad rainy weather whilst seated outside however they kindly accommodated us without any hesitation and ensured we were well looked after. We were lucky enough to be moved to an undercover spot to continue our lunch, which we were greatly appreciative of! Fantastic service, wonderful spread of food and wine and a beautiful location overlooking the vineyard - perfect spot to enjoy a sunny weekend day!
My wife and I had the picnic 3 course lunch and we both absolutely loved it! The food was extremely fresh and super delicious, the scenery was relaxing and beautiful. Montalto has done a wonderful job making it lovely private experience. We also would like to extend a huge thank you to the team at Montalto for their wonderful and friendly service and for the going the extra mile for accommodating to our dietary requirements I highly recommend this establishment to everyone from a nice lunch to a glamorous wedding Montalto is fantastic.
The food was absolutely exquisite. It was a shame that the service was quite lacking. When we asked for help choosing a wine, our host seemed quite shocked that we would ask that and just said one of them with no explanation or questions followed up so that was a bit disappointing considering we were dining at a winery. There was a very loud hens party behind us so I think they demanded a lot of the staffs attention as we were left for long periods between courses with dirty plates on the table and had to try grab their attention to get some more water or anything at all really. Not sure I would be back in a rush even though the food was stunning.
Review from 2019: This place is beautiful. It was so busy so come early! The pizza is the best I ever had in Australia. Their pizza base is crispy but not hard. I like their zucchini salad, while lamb shoulder was ok. I think for the foods quality and amount, the price is really reasonable because i have been to other place where it charges the same with poorer/less foods. The menu choice is rather small but i reckon they would do really well with all of them! And they have massive land of winery, bushes and forest and field where there are art pieces along the way so spare some time for it! Most of staff are friendly. Edited: Went again on weekday in winter, went for piazza and it was pretty quiet when we came about midday. Whilst my past experience were always positive about the pizzas, and I always thought their pizzas are the best in Melbourne, this time I was disappointed. The dough is nice as always but the topping wasnt just the best. Had one with the cabbage and it was just ok, no strong taste so a bit bland. Tried another pizza with pineapple but I found not enough pineapples and was too sour on the tomato paste. So I was sad as I brought a guest from overseas, bragging about this place pizzas and yet what we had wasnt great. Tried their arancini and it was beautiful. Their pesto pasta was super creamy, probably need some salt if eaten with other dishes, otherwise by itself it was beautiful, have some nice crunch in the sauce. The staff were friendly.
Had a wine tasting experience while we waited for a lunch table to become available. The wine tasted nice and we purchased a few bottles of bubbly and red wine. Our table outside in the garden was ready after the tasting. We shared 3 pizzas, tomato salad and chips and it was definitely enough for the 4 of us. The woodfired pizzas were very delicious. Very picturesque surroundings and a great way to spend the afternoon.
Awesome day, the winery was extremely busy Sunday the staff were very busy and some of the visitors were extremely impatient and rude. Come on people be respectful and have a generous heart. The young woman on the door welcoming guests needs a promotion she was so professional and friendly under lots of pressure. Food was excellent, oysters, charcuterie board, croquettes, napoli pizza with a sparkling rosè. Service staff were great. Perfect view. Sculpture garden was a lovely walk.
