I am a fussy and discerning Chinese food connoisseur from Sydney and have tried all kinds of restaurants all over the world. To be fair, I found the food quality of Ming Palace to be reasonably good compared to the hundreds of Chinese restaurants that I have been to all over Australia. Nothing awesome, but would regard it as well above average for a Chinese restaurant in Australia. However, the service from the waitresses were dreadful. It beats me as to how such people can ever get to work in the hospitality industry.. I hate to say this, but the worst culprit was the manager himself. Confucius says, "if you don't know how to smile, don't open a business." This guy not only seemed utterly ignorant of this important idiom, the ugly stare and glare he gives to everyone baffled me! I feel sorry for the owner/s. They should give the idiot the boot in the pants before he sends them broke!
Does not reserve any star. The restaurant too hot and stuff for lunch. Did not enjoy our lunch at all. Asked the staff to higher the fan, no action taken. Asked another staff, I was told the speed is such. slower than speed number 1. Air con was not switched on. A few diners used menu to fan themselves. Food wise, so so. Too pricey for plain noodles with some beansprout.
You walk up the flight of stairs and be greeted by the wave of intoxicating Chinese stench that is Ming Palace. The interior hasn't changed in over 10years. The carpet, the seats the walls are all dirty and falling apart. The chopsticks and bowls have a brownish stain to them. The food is average at best. Although the live seafood tends to fair better. Waiters are typically Chinese styled, don't expect smiles. If you're lucky enough, you may even see some entertainment. The night I was there, another diner collapsed in his chair. After a decade of service, the old chair couldn't take the load of the gentleman and gave way. Whole restaurant became silent.... Waiter staff didn't know how to react. His friends ended up pulling him up from the rubble. One of the staff began moving the chair pieces outside whilst the boss/manager apologised. I'm sure that gentleman did some injury to his back and should have seeked compensation or something because his friends then wanted to know where the chair went so they could take photos. Argument ensues. Ming place, happy memories.
ordered the chicken with vegetables & rice. quality of the meat was very poor, lots of gristle and fatty chicken pieces. chicken breast wholesale is probably $5 a kilo for them to buy it. No need to serve chicken of this poor quality in a $15 dish. I doubt their cost of the 3 ingredients in this dish cost them more than 50 cents. wont be going back.
The Yum Cha is good here; especially weekends. The dumplings are hand made, not reheated frozen ones. Over priced and underwhelming for dinner. The decor looks pretty tired, also.
My favourite place to eat yum cha on the Gold Coast. Well worth the 35 klms drive to get here. Tables and chairs are old but the food is exceptional
Food is utterly terrible. I do not understand how people have rated this any higher. Do yourself a favour and go anywhere else for some take away. After spending $40 to feed the family we promptly binned it and ate muesli and weet Bix for dinner. Such a waste
I felt dirty sitting inside. It's a dirty smelly run down place with over priced bland food
Food was expensive and the worse Chinese food we have ever eaten, would not recommend eating here
Just OK.. Nothing great nothing bad. Waitresses seemed uninterested in service.
