Long slow queues at check-in.nSlowest lifts ever encountered in a hotel, consequently too many people using them at once.nAdvertises daily room service but you have to request it. Room service provided but our original 2 bath towels were replaced with just one.nQuality toiletries provided but very small amount comes out of the dispenser at once so it was difficult to get enough.nShower flooded the bathroom.nThe bedroom was incredibly dark. The darkest hotel room I've ever been in. Very little natural light and the one window looked across the courtyard directly into the room opposite so if the light was one we were on full view of the occupiers of that room and also in view of people in the corridor by the lift.nVery noisy extractor fan in bathroom.nVery noisy aircon.nThe tea and coffee making area in the room is unlit and extremely dark.nThe fridge isn't cold.nOnly one chair provided. No desk area.nThe room was small and the wardrobe difficult to access.nThere wasn't sufficient sound insulation to the corridor.nTbis is NOT a 5 star hotel.
They say first impressions count or last.nWell that was the unfortunate outcome when staying at Midnight Hotel for 4 nights.nOn arriving, the hotel is right across the road from a run-down apartment complex with graffiti covered walls and smashed windows and looks like a ghetto eyesore.nOnce in reception, opinions are soon soothed as the foyer is very nice and smells fresh and vibrant.nUnfortunately, we were early to arrive and just wanted to leave our bags and go wander until the room was ready.nAsking if we could store our bags and also possibly be notified if any rooms became available earlier than 2pm, seemed like an unreasonable chore for the surly staff member that greeted us and just wanted to object to any request we asked.nShe finally said that the room would be ready for us around 12pm so we set off to get some lunch, returning about 1pm.nGreeted by another staff member, she confirmed that our room was ready and we could check in and proceeded to the first floor in the world's slowest lift service with our bags.nOpening the door to find it hadn't been made up, and the room was a mess from previous guests.nWe went back down to advise staff of this and was begrudgingly given another room and key to a room on the same floor.nThe rooms themselves are small, quite dark but comfortable and clean and the lookout wasn't to the mentioned graffiti war zone but to a souless courtyard and a view into other rooms, meaning the curtains needed to stay closed the majority of the stay.nThe room was odd with only one chair in it, meaning any in-room dining if chosen wasn't an option unless you wanted to sit on the bed and eat.nThe bed and shower were great and the offered free minibar a nice extra.nThe air con was locked on 19 degrees, so at night, it was stuffy and humid, and the smoke detector flashed like a strobe light all night, was annoying.nThe room attendants were very efficient and friendly and made sure the rooms were made up quickly each day.nSadly though in the 4 days of the stay, the staff attending the front desk didn't once make eye contact, speak, greet or acknowledge us at any point and were very unfriendly and ignorant even though we came and went past them several times during our day and nights.nThe front counter check-in staff were probably the least interested hotel employees I've ever encountered staying anywhere.nIn saying all of the above, the location of the hotel near busy Lonsdale and Mort street eateries, bars, and cafes was great, and this alone was worth staying here.nWould I stay here again?nProbably yes, due to convenience and location but the staff need to realise that hospitality does require engagement and personality.nBraddon food district saves this place just.
Excellent modern hotel in a prime location which is within walking distance to plenty of restaurants and shops.nHas a pool, gym and sauna available.nMinibar in the room is complimentary and can be restocked daily which is awesome.
The best part was that the minibar was provided for free every day.nThe room was a bit small, but the first-floor pool was large and the sauna was great.nThe breakfast restaurant is not a buffet, but you can order from the menu and the food is delicious. You can walk around Canberra City from the hotel. Hotel parking costs $20 per day.nThe lobby restaurant doesn't offer a discount for guests, but they have a lunch special for $20, which includes a drink or beer, and it's tasty.nnWhen requesting items to the room, they were not delivered promptly. I also asked for housekeeping before leaving, but when I returned late in the afternoon, the room still hadn't been cleaned.
We recently stayed for 4 nights and loved this hotel overall!nnPositives: based on our room packagenIndoor heated pool perfect for winternFree breakfast included - very good qualitynFree daily top up of minibar - no charge for minibar itemsnInterconnecting rooms family of 5 with 3 young kids: 4,8 & 10nFree drinks voucher with excellent barnAmazing location close to excellent F&B outletsnClose to the citynVery clean rooms and very NYC style modern contemporary feelnnAreas of Improvement :nIndoor heated pool was closed on our last daynNo bell boy or concierge but luggage trolley available self service - bit tricky for a family of 5 with young kids but manageablennExcellent stay overall and we will definitely be back!
