I was honestly quite shocked by the condition of my room at the Mercure Garden Hotel Brisbane. When I arrived, there was no toilet paper in the bathroom, the hand soap dispenser was empty, and there were leftover food items and off milk still sitting in the fridge from a previous guest.nnWhen I later put something in the fridge, I noticed the door seal was completely mouldy, which was pretty unpleasant. Unfortunately, things didn’t improve when I went to use the shower, it was obvious it hadn’t been properly cleaned, with a significant build-up of grime that was frankly disgusting.nnFor a hotel that advertises itself as 4-star, the standard of cleanliness was extremely disappointing and made the stay quite uncomfortable. The only things that appeared clean were the sheets and towels. Given the state of the rest of the room, I actually avoided using the glasses or cups because I didn’t trust that they had been cleaned properly.nnTo be fair, check-in and the service at reception were perfectly fine, and the staff member who came to bring toilet paper and empty the fridge was very friendly and apologetic. If those had been the only issues, I would have been able to overlook them. Unfortunately, the broader cleanliness problems in the room made the overall stay very uncomfortable.nnThe one positive was the ample parking available out front, which was convenient. Unfortunately, even that wouldn’t be enough to convince me to stay here again.
Check-in with Minoj im sorry on spelling was very good. The room was lovely, very spacious withe bed, small couch, little table for 2. The bathroom ammenities was nice. I appreciated the welcome note with little treats and felt their was a good level of loyalty acknowledgment for accor users. Selection of welcome drinks was basic but very nice to have on arrival, including tinned soft drinks.Theres also a large free carpark which is amazing. The breakfast was spot on. Just your basics for hot food : toast, baked beans, eggs. There was a very cool make your own pancakes. Fruit, yogurt, cereal and pastries. Really loved it - not over the top, not crowded. Hopefully not too much waste as you see in some places these days. Really enjoyed it. Our new favourite hotel in Brisbane. Location was really good too with easy access to major roads.
I genuinely wish I had read the reviews before booking instead of trusting that the brand name guaranteed a certain level of quality.nnThe rooms are outdated and in serious need of renovation and proper maintenance. Basic facilities are not functioning as they should. The shower’s hot and cold water adjustment is faulty and clearly requires repair. This reflects a lack of attention to essential upkeep.nnService is extremely disappointing. Staff lack even basic knowledge of their own products and there are obvious inefficiencies in their systems. Raising concerns with the assistant manager was even more frustrating. The response was condescending and dismissive, with no accountability taken. Instead of listening, management deflects and behaves as though nothing is wrong. This attitude is unprofessional and disrespectful.nnThe breakfast offering is minimal and depressing.nnThe only positive aspect of this property is its location, conveniently situated near the freeway and a shopping centre, although the bus depot next door can make the area noticeably noisy at times. Beyond location, the ongoing issues with room condition, cleanliness, service quality, and staff responsiveness are repeatedly mentioned in other reviews. This is not an isolated experience. When the same problems continue to surface, it is clearly a pattern.nnFor a property operating under the Mercure brand, this level of quality is a disgrace and far below expected standards. Management or the higher ups needs to start listening and make real changes. They also need to seriously reconsider whether certain staff members are suitable for the roles they are in.nnThere is no need to reach out, as I am not seeking any compensation, nor will I be returning. I simply want others to be aware.
I have never left a review before, but I feel the need to this time. We were visiting relatives in Brisbane and chose this hotel purely because it is close to family.nnAt check-in, my partner’s Accor status was not acknowledged. While recognition itself is not everything, there was also no welcome gift, no letter/card in our room, and no upgrade offered. Loyalty is supposed to carry some meaning, but there was no effort made at all.nnThe room was not properly cleaned on arrival. We had to raise the issue before it was attended to, which should not be necessary for basic housekeeping standards.nnAfter reading other reviews, the main issue appears to be inconsistency. The majority mention similar problems, yet there are some very positive reviews as well. That makes you question whether good service is selective or simply unreliable. The hotel is clearly capable of delivering better, but the lack of consistency is the real concern.
Good things first- it is walking distance 15 minutes to a large Westfield. Parking is easy to access and plenty of space.nnNot good things- both lifts make a squeaky sound when going up and down, also some jerky movements, I was attempted to use stairs. Room is ok, bathroom not so good, very old and needs an upgrade, has a slight smell like the others described.nnNo gym, you can access the gym in Westfield but you need to get a card from reception.nnNo usb charging ports inside the room.nnBreakfast was $26 but options very limited, don’t even have fried eggs. I could not have dairy in the morning so can’t have scramble eggs. Mushroom was empty and not refilled.nnStayed here for work because all other usual hotels was booked out. Will not stay here again.
