The old Mentone station is so sweet but can see why needed a modern extension. I wonder what will happen to old station house? Husband thinks a Cafe will go in there, that would be perfect, particularly if they serve Devonshire tea! Nice place to sit too.
Ridiculous staffs they happily be on their and always make a scene when asked to open up the gate for people with disability who are in wheelchairs to go thru. Seriously management should look to discipline their staff. Never have any issues at any other stations except Mentone. They are ok to leave the big gate open, but the moment that is needed. They make it a scene to open it. Tapping the myki card will not let the wheelchair access smoothly let alone allowing the carer to pass thru. To the indian male worker there - how do you think logically a vision impaired disabled client can drive themself thru the gate without the carer's assistance and the gate shuts on the wheelchair halfway that's an OHnS safety issue when all you need to do is your job. Press the button for the gate to open so both the disabled person and their carer to go thru. Bring your brain to work next time.
The newly rebuilt Mentone station in the LXRP is a massive upgrade from the old station. It's accessible, a pleasant space to be in, has shade, and they left the original buildings with a forecourt as a new community space. The issue I have with it is that the limited wayfinding signage is poor, directing pedestrians to a dead end behind the shops, there are very few PIDS, and the entrance and stairs to the station are a very long way from the Balcombe Rd end now, they should have allowed a connection to that end as about half of the station users come from that side of the station.
I don't know where else to leave this review but I figured here was the closest option. The amazing PSOs James and Joby went above and beyond for me today at Mentone station when I lost my phone on the train. They remotely chased it down calling other PSOs to check the train and managed to bring it back to Mentone safely within an hour all while also keeping an eye on the surrounds and takingnote of other concerns. For all the negative comments PSOs receive, I could not fault these to guys. They're awesome.nnThe person working for PTV, on the other hand, could use some tips from them. He said he couldn't do anything until the train got to Frankston at which point I reckon my phone would have been long gone. Didn't even try to assist.nnBut THANK YOU to James and Joby. Absolute legends.
Very quiet since Skyrail and the new Mentone Station were completed.
