I was encouraged when I was greeted by the white table cloths at Mekong - was hoping this to be an extraordinary dining adventure. Started strong with an excellent octopus entree .. a fabulous take on an old favourite. The roti was very disappointing, very greasy. Perhaps it was fried maybe this is how it's traditionally done. It wasn't like an Indian roti. Mains were disappointing as well. I love my pineapple fried rice. This was far from the best pineapple fried rice I've ever had. Again, was overly greasy and too few prawns. The BBQ chicken wasn't BBQed - it was basted in BBQ sauce.
Food was great and flavoursome. We ordered the pork ribs, papaya salad, Vietnamese salad and Vietnamese coffee! Customer service could definitely be improved. They could have been more friendly and it would also be amazing if they composted their food scraps/waste.
The entrees are good. Portion can vary - toothfish is miniscule whilst lamb satays has big serves. The pork ribs for the main was a dry and the prawn and pork rolls main was not the tastiest. Perhaps this sound nasty - the roti was the best plate of them all. So good I ordered a takeway for tomorrow's breakfast. Have to minus 1.5 stars as waitress was about to chase me down the stairs for the bill when I have already paid by Amex with a small note tip. Not the most ideal ending for the night when partner Angry Bird got annoyed. RT 1/9/22 Kid-friendliness: Not very as a lot of dishes are hot. Parking: Not good. Parked near UTS
Delicious journey along the Mekong right in Sydney. The pippies in butter curry was a particular amazing dish.Food: 5/5
Have been going to Mekong since 2020. Was my top favourite restaurant for a very long time. Went to the restaurant a few weeks ago for my husband’s birthday with my family but looks like management has changed? Branding look has changed - I have no problem with that but we had to wait over an hour for food to come out. Appetisers came out very slowly and there were only few groups of people dining in so we weren’t sure why it was taking so long. We asked when the food is coming out for a few times but no apology was given. Waiters used to be very professional but the vibe has changed a bit - used to feel like a fine dining restaurant experience but was quite disappointed to see the quality of service going down when prices have gone up. Thanks
Came for lunch on a quiet Sunday. Can't rate the food highly enough! Every dish had so much flavour and freshness, and really reflected the familiar flavour profile of the region Thailand, Vietnam but with added twists. The pipis in butter curry was a real highlight. Also very attentive service and not rushed. Definitely recommend.
I came here with parents and boyfriend for hearty vietnamese dinner. Beef pho was so delicious, I almost finished the soup too. We ordered fried eggplant and fried rice too which were delicious as well. I was surprised at the comments giving low stars. I gave 5 starts for only the food though, we were starving and the foods and we got perfect foods for our last night in Sydney.
The restaurant is located on the uppermost floor of the building. The staff advised that the one on the ground floor is owned by the same owner but had a different kitchen and different menu. This service of this restaurant was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and professional. The food quality was very good and dishes were well plated. The appetizer combo was tasty and flavorful. Love each and every bites. The environment was cozy. The price was reasonable. A hidden gem in the alley.
Everything about this meal was perfect! All the dishes were incredibly tasty, and we had one of the best beef briskets I'd ever eaten! Paid about $40pp only including wine, and were so full by the end! Other highlights included the soft shell crab and the friendly service. For a restaurant of this calibre, we expected it to be much busier than it was on a Friday night!
Lovely meal! Even better coz we got a 50% off food bill via The Fork previously Dimmi The staff were friendly but I guessed they were busy. Towards the end, they just placed a napkin on our table when we requested for the table to be wiped prior to dessert being served Apart from that, it would've been almost perfect . Great taste, nice ambience and reasonable price , or rather, in our case fantastic deal and value!
