Amazing Indian food in York. Their pav bhaji is a must try. The staff is really friendly and will do their best to accommodate special requests.Food: 5/5
We visited on NYE and were excited to try as I'd seen so many good reviews. On arrival we were seated and then had our order taken fairly swiftly, sadly that was the quickest service of the evening. We could see some sort of confusion at the electronic till where our server had 3 other members of staff helping her to sort something out. We ended up waiting at least 40 mins before our drinks arrived our popadoms arrived just 10 mins before we eventually got our starters after an hour of being there but no cutlery or plates. I then wanted another cocktail and when that arrived was told categorically that I was not allowed another cocktail because they'd run out of cocktail mix. I then saw a few mins later that another table ordered cocktails and they got theirs - ok then. The fun began when our mains arrived, mine and my partners came but my parents arrived without rice. They quickly asked the server for rice and she then told us there had beena mix up but they would order some rice. I get that it was a busy evening and I'm not a chef but surely rice is usually on the go in a sort of rice cooker? Needless to say my parents didn't want their dishes to get cold and so they just shared my bowl of rice and 15 mins later the rice turned up and we just turned it away. At this point we wanted out and just asked for the bill. They didn't offer us any goodwill for all the mix ups which was sad because I think we would have been a bit more forgiving. The food was actually really nice and I will say that yes I appreciate that there may have been staff shortages but it just seemed like the servers were a bit disconnected. I noticed other tables having similar mix ups so it may have just been a bad night. Also, if someone takes your order and then isn't sure if they've forgotten something then just go and ask the customer, most reasonble people will understand.
A slightly different take on Indian food with more tapas style small dishes but also some old classics chicken tikka masala. All the food we had was well prepared and very tasty
Absolutely delicious, so good to have an actually spiced curry in York. All dishes had so much flavour!
We had our NYE meal out and it was amazing, the food was really tasty and the staff were really helpful and polite. It’s a nice relaxed atmosphere and the food came out in good time. It’s 1 of the best Indian meals I have eaten in a long time and I’m looking forward to heading back again soon. The Samosa chaat was banging…..
Great food but terrible customer service. Apparently the waiter forgot to put my order into the system from his written notepad? Why? Just decide on whether to use a notepad or an electronic system?, so I waited almost an hour for my drink, then the waiter asked something along the lines of "you ordered food, right?". They were friendly at first, but an hour long wait just for drinks, when the restaurant is almost empty is simply too long. The service personnel kept "forgetting about me" and even though there were 3 ! People working around the bar and tables, but nobody actually paid attention to the customers. After paying I went to the loo and there were spiderwebs ! Inside the toilet bowl! As I was leaving the same waiter as before uttered a very unfriendly sounding "hello?!" as if asking what I was doing here.
Food was mind blowing. I didn't expected it be good like the ones in India but I was surprised how well they have prepared the food. It tasted amazing. Best service I must say. Went to that place a little late very close to closing time so we couldn't eat at the restaurant so we opted for takeaways. They didn't have some things left with we wanted which is good sign that their food was good but whatever we got was amazing. Recommendation- samosa chaat and vada pav. Also had panner Achari and Garlic Naan but best was chat Vegetarian options: Many good veg options available.
I ordered a starter, masala dosa, and a drink. After a long day at work I thought I would treat myself with a nice dinner but alas I regret eating here. The food was stale and it had weird smell. It was so bad that I had to waste it despite the fact that I was hungry and generally I don't do food wastage. In hunger I consumed half the food but halfway I realized how stale the food was. If I am ever in York again and this restaurant will be the only option I will have, I will rather starve than eat their stale food again. I had the best and the worst food elsewhere but this was worse than the worst. I am not a native English speaker but I know that worst is superlative and that there cannot be anything worse than worst, but this food made me think otherwise. The worst food I had elsewhere was tasteless and whatnot but it was not stale like the food I had here. If some of your items are not popular and you are not able to finish them by the end of the day you prepare them, don't just keep them for later hoping you can get rid of them by serving it stale to unsuspecting diners, instead remove them from your menu. This kind of malpractice not only hampers the diners meal and their stomach but also the restaurant's reputation and make diners afraid of eating out. I have eaten the infamous street food of India but I never had upset stomach after eating them like I had after eating the stale food here. When I told my partner later that upon being asked how the food was by the server I replied to them saying I had high expectations but I was disappointed, my partner said she can feel how bad the food was because I generally don't comment that harshly no matter how bad the food were.
Really liked the food, ambience is nice and staff is friendly. They have got the online timelines wrong. They open @5:30 pm please take a note. Food have got good flavours, must try is Pav Bhaji! Yoghurt chart was also very good.
We had a fantastic meal for FOUR with drinks, well, cocktails anyway. We received a warm welcome upon our arrival. We ordered cocktails on arrival, four different ones, absolutely gorgeous drinks. Our server was most helpful with great advice. We had starters and mains, he did ask if we were ok with everything arriving when they were ready, this was ok with us as we were famished. I must admit there wasn't much delay with the starters arriving and the mains, TBH they probably all came at the same time. UPON reflection the food was fantastic, plenty for all, maybe too much as we had to take a doggy bag with us. We loved the cocktails, much better than the ones we had in the hotel . Would deffo go again when we come to York......
