Honestly, this hospital is a joke. Unless you come in with your head in your hands you wont be getting seen within anything less than a 3 hour wait. I have been here 3 times and every time has been a horror story. The first time i came in i was forced home by work and threatened with ambulances if i stayed at work as i was blue in the face and could barely breathe yet it still took 3 visits on 3 seperate days only to be told there is nothing wrong with me until a doctor finally decided to ultrasound my back to reveal what looked like an A grade wagyu steak and told me i have some awful bronchitis. I was put on antibiotics for a week and felt better… not like i asked them for that in the first place… what am i gonna do shoot up antibiotics with the local vitamin junkies. But all better in the end i guess. The second time i came in with a broken hand and had to wait well over 4 hours just to be shown a google image of a broken hand and told it was mine and then after making a joke about no radiologist did they get me in for a real xray which they didnt even bother to upload for my gp… oh! And then i left with a limp soggy half arsed cast looking like captain hooks downy cousin that crumbled in the first day after letting it set. My gp was appalled that i had to go to a local radiology and got my xrays done within half hour just for him to see it and have to refer me to a hand specialist as my knuckle had rotated 45deg. And finally the 3rd time i was waiting in the lobby for almost 3 hours even after mentioning to the reception nurse i had spent the better half of the week coughing blood and having nose bleeds ontop of a nasty cough that was rendering me breathless that they didnt even bother to note down confusing and worrying my doctor when i told him when i was finally seen but no i still had to wait while i watched all the people who came after me go in before me to get a tetanus shot from their cat scratching them. All while i heard them make comments about me removing the covid mask they supplied to get some air in as i was already having issues breathing. Once again was only here for antibiotics but god forbid i get those but you will hand out tetanus shots to drunks who spill their mcdonalds all over the place when they come in or old love worried about their cat giving them feline aids or what ever it was. And hand out oxykitten to any junkie who says they have a migraine. Absolute joke here. Ill just drive to atherton hospital if im involved in any 50 car pile ups or if i get stabbed at the bottle shop for a tally of woodstock. Better off steri-stripping your wounds closed than going to them for anything remotely related to them doing their job.
All was very good, first time coming here, I m so worried about everything.. while I m in pain and worry about payment.. the nurses and doctor always support me, told me to not too worry about everything we will find out the way but first we have to heal your infection first, always told me like that… they give me all the best treatment for my infection.. they are all in hospital so kind even I m just visitor not permanent resident. They all take care of me.. god bless you all, Aamiin
They didn’t help me at all just kept telling me to see a GP. Why can’t they just diagnose the problem and write some scripts. Instead of just trying to rush you out the door, also there was like two people in waiting room on this day and it only took an hour to be seen. They offered no help once I’d seen them anyway!
The emergency so bad, they don't give anything to reduce the pain before to see the Drs, to many procedures to follow for something it's urgent. What the difference between go to the regular Drs and the emergency, NONE, hopeless, so disappointing experience.
I am an American visitor who came to the Mareeba Hospital on a Sunday seeking help for cellulitis in my leg. We were welcomed by staff and were able to see a doctor after a short wait. The doctor took a thorough history, explained possibilities, provided a prescription and a write-up to take to my doctor back home. The entire staff were warm and professional. Because of the excellent care I received at Mareeba, I was able to enjoy my visit to the Tablelands. Thank you! --Martha from Plymouth, Massachusetts.
