What has happened to this place?! Has it changed owners? Extremely disappointing meal tonight. We have been coming here for 11 years and the quality has completely changed. The spicy salmon had an 8mm cube of salmon in it and a dash of chilli sauce on top?! And the salmon cream cheese ship had a slither of cheese on top and the salmon was wrapped only halfway around?!
Very happy to be back again to this restaurant and I have always loved the chicken karaage there. Its one of the many truly Japanese way of making chicken karaage, well marinated and very fresh! Also, we have tried the new asari ramen, the sweetness from the clams, with the combo of buttery and salty flavour from the soup is something very unique and appetizing even though the egg is overly cooked. Overall, I think this restaurant is under rated for its value, effort, generosity and real definition of authentic Japanese food. Give it a try. You may like it.
Convenient location located right across of Hurstville station. Came during lunch time on a week day and didn’t have to wait for a table. Food was average but it wasn’t horrible. The sushi rice did not taste even. Some sushi rice had strong vinegar taste while some had not taste. You could tell it wasn’t mixed properly. The nori used for sushi could be improved. No taste to it and feels cheap. The frying fish roe gunkan was just horrible. Nori wasn’t even connecting the sushi properly. Sashimi was alright. You get what you paid for. Ramen was decent. Pork broth has a nice flavour that doesn’t taste overly salty. Great noodle texture I’d say it was probably the better dish out of everything we ordered Overall a 3 star as this restaurant provides a lot of variety. Ramen was best but sushi wasn’t worth it.
Great dining experience there, the waitress are patience and multilingual. Good service and delicious food, the price is affordable and the is indoor and outdoor tables to choose.
Used to come here very often and it was always a great experience. Pre-lockdown, it had a sushi train, and was already quite cramped in size. Post-lockdown, the restaurant has gotten even smaller and tighter. This sometimes takes away from the experience. Nonetheless, the food has always been great. Although the sushi train was always enjoyable, sushi is still available to order through the menu. The ramens and udons are always flavourful, the noodles are cooked to perfection in texture, generous amounts of toppings, and broth is always phenomenal. Serving sizes are not bad either. Personal favourites are Teriyaki Chicken Udon and Seared Salmon Belly Nigiri. Waiters have always been good. Food doesn't usually take long to come out which is a plus. If you love Japanese food and don't mind it being cramped, this place is perfect for you.
To be honest I was at first a bit skeptical to see that a majority of the staff members were not of oriental descent but a lot of Japanese places have been run by Chinese or Korean staff members and they have been fine. Unfortunately their food proved my point as the food I found was quite average and I wasn’t really a fan of the rice’s texture. The food is actually a little over priced for what you’re given. The service was adequate but we did have to go through three staff members before our order was taken and food came out with significant wait times. No tables have serviettes so make sure to ask for some when food arrives. The train service was also removed but it’s understandable due to the Covid situation.
Disappointed is about all l can say. What happened to this place? I've been told Japanese owned. Staff friendly but l didn't come here to listen to loud radio music coming from kitchen. Ramen no flavour. I really hope the Japanese owner seriously take these negative but honest reviews. But l doubt it. Goto -san please food quality and taste not good. Mydis too loud.
Decent size portions of food. Ramen and Rice dishes are large and quite food value for how much they cost. Considering the limited amount of Japanese restaurants in Hurstville area, Manmaruya is a good choice if you crave a mix of Japanese food from sushi/sashimi to cooked items.
Cozy and busy on weekends especially after 12 pm. Come early Delicious Nice Kirin Beer too only 2 x Japanese Crew running the whole place at that time 1130am
This sushi shop is relatively cheap compared to other shops nearby. And I would highly recommend the salmon sashimi rice. I used to been to another shop opposite side, but it taste not good as usual, and this one still keep the standard. The only thing I need to mention is there should be more sushi on the train. Everytime I went to the shop, I need to order most of my sushi.
