5/5 Stars for the food, it was fantastic. The Char Kuay Teow is nice and has a good spicy punch. The butter chicken was fantastic definitely the highlight of the meal. 3/5 Service, bloke serving us spent most of his time trying to avoid our gaze when we wanted to order or even just get a missing dish. Definitely saw us as well. Overall really nice food but server could focus more on the customer than side tasks.
Ok so some items here are hit and mess, others amazing. Some items bought in frozen dumplings reheated, other items handmade from scratch and delicious. Such a huge menu there’s no doubt the reason why it has to be done this way. Have been here several times. Favourite dishes are the chicken rice or simply steamed chicken, pepper prawns and Chinese vegetables - as pictured. Always understaffed and messy. Very busy. Good tasty comfort food.
Fantastic Malaysian Restaurant in the centre of Canberra. The food was all extremely delicious and serving sizes were generous. Service was very efficient and prices were reasonable. Was very busy, so would recommend making a reservation.Food: 5/5
Madam Lu Restaurant is well located in CBD and has a range of interesting dishes especially the Char Kway Teow consisting of noodles and meat...most delightful and well worth another visit...good friendly staff too and a kind of celebratory atmosphere...Food: 4/5
I am shocked at the portion of the dishes. I took a few photos and put an iphone 11 next to the dishes to show how small they were. The chicken and beef cost me 25.9 and 26.9 respectively. They both came with a tiny bowl of pancakes on the third photos. I ordered this take away in the restaurant instead of any app. So no transitional cost involved.
Tried their signature Bak Kut Teh and vegetarian fried rice. The food was tasty, but pork rib soup was in small amount given the price $27.9. Fried rice tasted amazing and reminded me of home!
The service was extremely quick. Standout was the soft shell crab curry
It was not what we expected considering all the ratings on Google. It was the worst Malaysian food we’ve ever had..none of the dishes we ordered were right. We ordered basic Malaysian dishes. It was our first time there but perhaps the previous chefs with good ratings were no more there. It was quite unfortunate as we are both Malaysian food lovers!!Sadly not recommended:
We had high expectations looking at the high rating of this place. Unfortunately it did not meet our expectations. We ordered chicken satay, Singapore chilli prawn, ayam kapitan and roti. It was disappointing to see the roti was not home made. It was pre-made from superstore that was fried. Singapore chilli prawns were sweet. Ayam kapitan was ok. The service was reasonable except the lady manager could be friendlier. The position of the dishes were quite big. Overall it's not too bad but not more then 3 star. Does not take amex card.
Amazing local restaurant. The Soft Shell Crab Curry was a stand out! The owner Ming is an Australian National Treasure and should be protected at all cost! She genuinely loves meeting customers and you can tell by the number of regulars that were in the restaurant, that her infectious energy and smile brings a lot of joy!!!
