"We are a small, local cafe and coffee roastery. Medium roast, espresso, flat whites and long blacks. An honest offering with our food made in-house. Please be aware, we close on public holidays, we DON'T accept credit cards or international debit cards. Probably a reasonable spot if you like rude service with your coffee… Look I can see why this place gets good reviews for the coffee, fit-out and general ambiance. The interior really is quite well done. The service just generally seems to be flustered initially. We were recommended to come here by the local Information Centre. Now in fairness, we were here as part of a port day with Ovation of the Seas, so there was likely a larger amount of customers than normal. That said, when our coffees were delivered to our table, there was a little confusion about who had which coffee; this was meet with a loud “jesus” muttered under the breath of the staff member. Given how busy the coffee shop was, and the fact there was no chairs, I was leaning against a table which had no chairs at it; this was subsequently met with a “you can’t sit on the table” from a staff member, who then proceeded to bring another couple out and source chairs for them no such offer was made for our family. My whole family felt the whole service aspect was just poor. Note this coffee shop does not do takeaway cups. I would be wary of asking for a coffee in a keep-cup based on my experience… I try and go out of my way to find local shops to review and try out firmly believe in supporting local but I would recommend taking your business to another coffee shop.
Went there with the family. A spacious cafe with a large deck. There are tables inside and outside with a view towards Lyttelton harbour. We had coffee and cake. Both delicious. There is a huge coffee roaster machine inside the cafe. My kid loved it. Artworks on the walls all around. The place has an open kitchen and cool vibes. I loved the industrial look. We will be back!
Stopped for coffee yesterday and returned today for one of the most delish breakfasts we’ve had in NZ. Me the heuvos rancheros and Julie the pesto mushrooms Plus another perfect coffee experience Sat on back deck watching the bustling port Recommended
Awesome Breakfast! Anything from a Big Breaky with Bacon and Eggs etc to something sweet with French toast. Really good coffee and OJ. Atmosphere is laid back and chill with an awesome view of the wharf. Friendly staff and overall a great place to have breakfast. Highly recommend and definitely coming back here again on our trip.
At face value, this cafe in the port town of Lyttelton seemed small and unassuming, nothing fancy. We weren’t even planning to go here, if not for wanting to spend time to wait for a clearer weather before taking a gondola ride nearby. So glad we came here though because for one, the coffee was just fantastic! I’m no coffee connoisseur but the hot cuppa I had is definitely on the top of my list. The next thing I loved is the vibe of the cafe—spacious, rustic and opens to amazing views of the harbour. The staff was okay, locals here were friendly or nicely nonchalant which I prefer, than having people stare at me because I “look different” ‍. Needless to say, I think I found the best cafe in New Zealand for me to date. Too bad it’s 600++ miles away from Auckland, but the seclusion adds to its charm, I guess
I loved the place ! The atmosphere was so great there was a dj with vynils. No take away.
I have been here in the capacity of life drawing class on Monday evenings. I enjoy these classes so much. The tutor is without a doubt the most open minded I have met. And believe me, if you want to learn anything. Open your mind. That this Cafe provides the venue is another example of what is possible. I will get up for a coffee soon and if you haven't been there. Get there. !!!
Ex pat kiwi visiting from Canada so a bit critical at times of the quality of food at NZ restaurants but have to give The Lyttelton Coffee Company massive thumbs up for the BLT sandwich on Turkish bread, seed slaw and potato salad... THE ABSOLUTE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! Kudos the the food quality and the atmosphere is darn cool as well. Highly recommend!!!
Great food, whole group were happy with their meals. Nice views from rear balcony.Food: 4/5
Very good coffee roasted in house. I got the french toast, which was tasty but would have liked the toast to have soaked in the egg a bit longer and maybe the option of a small maple syrup jug to top it off. All in all though a fantastic experience in a great spot.
