Lyceum Language Centre

About

Lyceum is a nationally recognised language school that teaches English and LOTE in different centres around Melbourne

Story

LOTE at Lyceum:

At Lyceum, we have four 10-week terms per year and we have new beginner courses starting every term. We offer as many classes as we can at each of our different levels and at each of our centres in the CBD and North Fitzroy.

Our classes are small groups, with a minimum of 4 and maximum of 10 students - an ideal size to stimulate conversation and interactive learning but which also allows for a high amount of attention to be given to each student.

Our experienced teachers are native speakers and use the communicative method, meaning there is a focus on speaking in the classes as a way to learn and practise new material, to equip our students for practical and realistic use of the language. Grammar, reading and writing are also of course all integral components of our courses and learning a language.

There is a separate textbook fee which varies according to language. Please find the full details under 'Fees and textbooks' on our website.

Please refer to our website (www.lyceum.com.au) for more information about our school and classes, and feel free to call our administration team on 9600 1194 for information about enrolment.

English at Lyceum:

Our school offers full-time (20 hours per week) General English, IELTS Preparation and EAP courses, which run from 8.45am- 1pm, Monday to Friday. We offer small group tuition with an average of 7 and maximum of 12 students per class.

In addition, we organise free activities and outings, such as visits to galleries, going to festivals, bar nights etc. Students can also book to share a weekend at Lyceum’s beach house.

Our General English courses focus on communication activities in functional and situational contexts. It encourages students to speak with fluency and accuracy as well as develop the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Students are welcome to commence their course any Monday.

Our architect-designed Queen Street premises feature bright, modern classrooms, audiovisual equipment for language learning, internet workstations with free broadband internet access, kitchen facilities as well as a common room and a roof top garden for students.

Accommodation is also something that we can help you arrange. From homestays to hostels, we can advise you of the best arrangement for you.

If you wish to enrol, please go to our website www.lyceumenglish.com.

Thank you.

I studied French and Spanish here at Lyceum and I had a fantastic time. The staff were lovely, my classes were great and my two teachers Nathalie and Isidro were wonderful. They were engaging and fun and made language learning a breeze. I liked that the lessons not taught you how to communicate, read and write in the language, but also how the teachers introduced lots of non-textbook materials and cultural lessons about everyday life in French or Spanish speaking countries. I felt so much more confident when I finally ended up going travelling in France and South America. So thank you Lyceum!
My husband and I are attending French class with Jonathan - the level 1+2 intensive. Firstly regarding the intensive, it is, well ... intense. If you have no previous language study or cannot commit much time, you may find it is a little fast paced. Hubby and I are keeping up, just! I would love to devote more time to my study. We are thoroughly enjoying our lessons, the venue is conveniently located and always clean and nice and Jonathan is a great teacher, very patient and engaging, entertaining and fun, and super supportive. We really enjoy our class. We also got lucky in that our classmates are all very kind, fun and supportive people and the dynamic is great. We are definitely staying on with Lyceum at this stage. I highly recommend learning with a friend or partner so you can have someone to speak with at home. We have made our weekly class our "date night"! It's unique, we are learning a new skill and it is great value considering what a night out costs these days. I will give 5 stars when I can speak French but be assured Lyceum is truly a good service provider of French language. Au revoir ;
When I first came to this school my level of English was around 5, now after almost 7 months, I can say, I have improved so much. I enjoy being in the IELTS class! Classes are interesting and enjoyable. Peter is one of the best teachers for IELTS! Always prepared and helpful.
I have been studying here for a month and I really enjoyed it!!!!!!!!!!! I'm still studying in the IELTS class and I can assure you that it's really useful!!!! All the teachers are very nice and well prepared! I've met a lot of people from many different countries and I feel that this experience is very rewarding! I strongly recommend that you join us! Thanks Lyceum for this wonderful opportunity!
When you hit middle age and start regretting not paying more attention to language studies 40 years earlier when at school, the surest remedy is to enrol in french classes at Lyceum. The course is sensational, taking the student on a caring and nurturing linguistic and cultural journey from beginners to advanced or to whatever other stage the students says he or she has learned enough. This is my fourth year of study and I am loving the experience. I have used the skills learnt during several trips to France, with considerable success. Lyceum - very much more than ordering from the menu at a french restaurant
I did German lessons at the Lyceum with Tina, she is a brilliant teacher! Everyone there is really friendly. I was a complete beginner and did the intensive classes which were great!!
Hi everyone! I am in the IELTS class: the entire course is well designed to optimise your individual skills and you always receive specific attention and several tips about how to approach each section of the "real" test! In addition, our teacher is "SuperPeter" : as prepared as passionate!
I have been studying English in Lyceum for about 6 months and I think it's a very good institute for learning English and some other languages that they offer because they have a group of really qualified teachers and varied teaching technics and additional activities for students.
I am in this school from last week. It is really funny and cool schoo. The teacher are well prepared and the lessons are full of the interestings topics. There are activity in the evening or in the lunch in which you can meet people and speek the language that you are studying.
Be very very careful approaching this business. There is a chance they will make promises they won't keep and you will be out of pocket. Every time a new manager comes on board, it seems like decisions made by the old one are allegedly ignored by the new one and if you lose money, that's bad luck for you. In the year 2019 businesses just have to do better, not take actions that could result in people saying they are running a scam.
