Patrick at Lords of the North nailed my hair cut. Plus gave a massage and hot towel. They even offer you whiskey or beer while you have your hair cut. I will gladly pay the little bit extra for the lovely chat and nice vibes.
Well. Ever just walk into a place and you just sense the pride and love ? This place is all about care These folks are on their own level. I kinda wanted to just stay and chill after my cut… that’s how comfortable, warm and welcoming this joint is. Bunch of legends. I will be back every time I need my ears lowered.
I walked in to this place few weeks ago for a haircut with an appointment. Upon arriving I sat down and told the barber what I wanted to have done. I wanted a haircut and beard trim. The barber said he couldn’t do my beard and that he would ask one of the others if they could do my beard while he did my hair. Cat, the female owner of the salon, told him that she could do it. I decided that I did not want that arrangement and that I was respectfully going to excuse myself and was being polite with the barber as I thanked him and moved towards the door, until Cat turns off the music, walks over, and asks what the problem was. I told her that there was no problem but that for personal and religious reasons I did not want a woman touching my body and that I was going to go somewhere else. At this point Cat becomes triggered and changed towards me. She became defensive and said how that was messed up of me to have that preference and that subsequently I was no longer welcome in her salon. It was all terribly unprofessional. She did not even ask me about my reasons or why I may have that preference, or if there was any other way they could accommodate me. No, she got defensive and asked me to leave her salon. Had I been a woman and said something like “I prefer a woman” I don’t think anyone would have made a fuss. Or maybe if I was at a masseuse and for religious reasons I did not want a woman massaging my body, I think most people would find that quite reasonable. But for Cat, having a preference like that is ‘backwards’. Good grief, I felt embarrassed for her. Her other barber didn’t say a word and to be honest I felt bad for him too. I grabbed my jacket, thanked him, and walked out. Just for context: I try to avoid shaking hands with woman out of respect for my wife and this woman is having a fit and projecting all over me for not wanting her to touch my face for 30 minutes. This is a common sentiment amongst some religious populations and is not anything to do with misogyny or being ‘backwards’. It is a traditional moral-spiritual position and though it may be a minority orientation in this country, it is still worthy of being respected and a client holding such beliefs should be able to choose who cuts their hair without being attacked. The entitlement and lack of professionalism is patently inappropriate. The other barbers seemed like nice guys and I don’t hold anything against them.
I’ve never been a “barber guy” before. But, even as one of 3-4 barber shops along this patch of High St, this one called out to me. It looks great, cosy and welcoming. I probably waited longer than I should have when I was the only customer there, but they more than made up for it by doing my hair and beard despite me being unable to book both online, and by supplying a beer as I was being worked on. And I was so happy with how my beard looked afterwards. I’ll be back soon guys, just as soon as I have a reason to!
Took my son to get a haircut, he was apprehensive but Patrick was sooooo good with him. So patient and chatty, my son loved the whole experience. Will come back again!Service: Kids' cuts
I had the most amazing time here. I haven’t been to a barber shop in years and this place has the most amazing vibe and delightful staff. Handed me a beer on entry and playing great tunes and amazing high level of service. Matt was meticulous and detailed and made sure every part of my cut was perfect and gave me advice of how to maintain my beard between trims. 10/10 will be coming backService: Hair shape up
Fantastic beard trim. Had a rare hair chop h last time I went - equally fantastic. Beer on offer, a cute doggo, great musc. My new barbers for sure.
Classic, reliable, welcoming and additionally asetically pleasing. Always a 5star in my book with the bonus of great products, best place in the North by far!
Lucky did a really good job of giving my thick curly hair a much needed shape up and smooth fade cut. Was a bit sceptical at first, as I've had bad experiences with people cutting my curls. But it looks and feels great :
The most comfortable I've felt in a barber/hair salon in a long time. Love the vibe here. Everyone is friendly and chill, the decor and layout is warm & eclectic, and I even got to share the space with a cute little dog that looked like it was a cat in a past life. LGBT+ friendly. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
