I have bought plenty from PRA over the years. I have not visited them for more than 10 years since I moved interstate, and recently walked back in when I was in Perth. Owners Brendan and Grant still recognized me from all those years, and the service is still the same - warm and knowledgeable. I wasn't planning to buy anything from them, but I walked out with a camera strap anyway!

'Northbridgian Apple technicians at PRA Imaging steal the stereotype of the "dodgy mechanic"' Four weeks ago I ordered an Apple battery for my ageing laptop through PRA Imaging - Apple's recommended secondary source of repair in Northbridge. My computer was working fine, but the battery was swelling causing the trackpad to rise. I stressed to PRA that I wanted an Apple battery not a non-Apple aftermarket product as I'd had problems with knock off stuff before. I was told in that case it would need to be sent from NSW and it would cost $110 for diagnosis/labour and $190 for the battery. It would be ready in a week. Two weeks in I payed them a visit in person and ask about progress. I was informed due to recent cases of exploding Samsungs, batteries are no longer flown across Australia but instead driven, hence the delay. They offered the option for me to take the laptop back while the part came in so I could use it, but I decided to leave it with them to save me the trip when it eventually did. I was prepared to be patient with this. At the beginning of the fourth week I decided to take them up on their offer and get my laptop back over the Christmas/NY period. I was still happy to wait as long as it took for the battery to arrive. I showed up once again in person and asked for my laptop back. The receptionist apologised for the delay and went to get my computer. Here is where it gets interesting... She comes back telling me the the battery has in fact arrived and it can be installed immediately and would only take 5 minutes. I should have been happy hearing this, but I came to wonder why it was not already done and why I had not been called about it. Why was it that the only reason it was getting fixed RIGHT THEN was because I had asked about it? This isn't normally how things work right? I returned and my laptop was on the counter ready to be paid for and collected. I asked them to open it up once more so I could check that it was in fact an Apple battery. It turns out they just installed one of the aftermarket batteries and sealed it back up... what hoping I'd just pay and leave? Was this an attempt to to cross off a job from the sheet and not give a rats about what I actually asked for? I told them that they had tried to deceive me and to take it out and put the old one battery back in so I could at least use the computer sans power source. It was brought back battery-less declaring that re-installing my old battery was a hazard. Final nail in the coffin. Alas! There is a happy ending... I called another place that day (iWorkshop (non-Apple endorsed)) and ordered a genuine Apple battery through them. It came in two days, they installed the day it came (and I checked it) and overall it all cost $100 less. Enough said.
