Laurent Bakery

About

Having brought French artisan baking to Australia in 1991, we remain unashamedly obsessed with taste, even if it takes longer to create. www.laurent.com.au

"French inspired but Australian owned, Laurent’s vision is to bring the highest standards of French artisan baking to Melbourne and beyond. Founded in 1993, we have 16 bakeries in iconic Melbourne locations. These sell fresh bread, cakes, pastries, food, tea and coffee, that live out these standards. Our staff and our relaxed French café ambience are as much as part of our brand as our food.We also have a large wholesale and export business, recently signed a 10 year deal with Coles and export to China, Singapore, Korea, Japan and Canada. Our two state of the art factories in Braeside are unique for their ability to produce artisan quality bread in high volume, fulfilling our dream of bringing this to the mass market."

Someone came late and jump in the queue. And got served first, which made me feel very uncomfortable. When I pointed out, the staff told me since she is the only one working now. Excuse me? Is this a good excuse to serve people based on their nationality?
This was a great place! There were many sweet and savoury options to choose from which was great! The croissants were light and airy and looked stunning and the sandwich/baguette was delicious! The staff were kind and the drinks were good as well. One thing I would say - a lady cut in front of us while waiting in the queue. I'm not sure if she didn't realise we were in the queue or she was just being rude but overall it was fine.
Great location on Whitehorse Road, Balwyn. Staff were all friendly and helpful deciding on what cake to eat. There is such a variety of cakes and savory, makes it impossible to decide as so much variety. If your looking for a cake for a special occasion there are such varieties to choose from. Prices may be a little expensive but one bite, then it's worth the price. Great coffee and great table service. Saw many locals having coffee and cake or if you want toasted sandwiches as well. Cappuccino was beautiful and such a variety of coffees and teas to choose from. Great fir a catch up with friends and such a great environment. Been to a few different Laurents, but this is my favourite one. Heaps os space to move around. Can't wait fir my next cake and coffee!!
None of the staffs smiles and the girl at the counter looked like she was forced to work here. Almond croissant was pretty good, but coffee was sort of overpowered by the milk, can barely taste any coffee
Unfortunately has gone backwards on service. Cakes are still good. Staff used to be good and friendly. Staff are now rude and disorganized. One customer is told to wait in line at the cash register while another is served at the counter. No apology when they are told about their inconsistent service.
Laurent Bakery Balwyn is such a lovely place to visit to enjoy a cuppa and a sweet treat or a meal. The Staff are always welcoming and the food is always so delicious. The seating was suitably spaced and I felt quite comfortable eating there on my own. Service to the table makes things easy and I've never been disappointed regardless of what I ordered. Today my late lunch was a Croque Monsieur, Éclair Framboise and a large Chai Latte in their super sized cups, that you just want to sit and enjoy. There is a carpark behind the shops and a walk through to Whitehorse Rd makes access easy. There is also another carpark behind the shops on the other side of the road with the pedestrian crossing right in front of Laurent. I'm sure you'll enjoy this lovely local.
Bread was ok, can’t say it was fresh. Croissant was good but not amazing. How can a bakery not have a bread slicer?
Decent place for a coffee and catchup with friends with good selection of pastries. However, it's not the first time I've found it hard to find a clean table.
I like the coffee taste in here. Friendly staff. They have small cute backyard as well
Laurent is well known around Melbourne for its high quality food, cakes and cafes. It had been a long time between visits and it won’t be in the future. On a Sunday morning, this place was almost full with people having brunch, a coffee, lunch, reading newspapers, grabbing some takeaway or like me, picking up some macaroons as a gift. I would’ve liked to have taken more photos but it’s not always cool to snap pictures of the food on display. And doubt I could do what’s on offer justice anyway. The cakes and sweet treats are amazing and although not cheap, they are excellent. There is also a large range of croissants, rolls, foccacias and more. Coffee is pretty good. Staff are extremely helpful even when rushed off their feet as they were on Sunday morning. Laurent in Balwyn is kid friendly including high chairs. It’s also wheelchair accessible. Parking out the front isn’t too bad – depending on the time of day. There are morning restrictions for city bound traffic.
