In early April I discovered someone’s freshly fly-tipped rubbish dump in state forest within the councils jurisdiction. I thought I’d do the right thing and notify them of the matter.nI was told that another agency HPV Plantations would need to deal with it.nAfter contacting them they sounded confused and suggested I call the council. After being hand balled back and forward between the two I got an affirmative “we’re on it” from the council’s side about following things up with HPV plantations.nnTwo weeks pass and I noticed that nothing had been done so I contacted the council again only to be told that the information that I had been given about HPV plantations needing to deal with the matter was incorrect. And that instead they forwarded the matter onto DEECA Victorian department of energy, environment & climate action. They even had a reference number that I could follow up with DEECA.nnNot sure how I was given wrong information like that at the beginning but at least it sounded like they were following up on things, right?nnWell two more weeks pass and I still notice that nothing had been done. So I decided to call DEECA myself and follow up on what was happening, with the reference number that I was given by Latrobe city council.nOnly to be told that they were never contacted by the council about the matter and that the reference number I had didn’t exist in their system and if I would like to start a fresh report then & there.nnA month in and only now the process has properly started. Because of my own initiative. Are you joking?nnIt almost feels as though Latrobe city council couldn’t care less if metric tonnes of garbage gets dumped into its forests.nnTL;DRnIf you ever come across illegally fly-tipped dumps in state forests within this councils jurisdiction. Do not bother alerting the council as they will only waste your time. By either cleaning their hands of any responsibility. Or just blatantly sweeping the matter under the rug entirely.nnGo directly to DEECA.
Attending a Landcare conference at Latrobe City Council where Sustainability and Parks staff, Landcare Facilitators and available equipment was displayed for attendees in an upstairs or lift to spacious second floor conference room. From LCC reception to leaving was a pleasant experience. I came by train as a bus station and a huge carparking is also available. As it's situated in a shopping area of Morwell there are a lot of shops, Latrobe Regional Gallery, Cafes, Supermarkets and lots of trees areas to sit.
