So the salad is okay, but too violent. Tastes delicious but too much garlic. Don't order if you want to be around people for the next three days. The pizza is a real poem. Definitely try the Alchemia. I am not a vegetarian, but I think it's great to find a selection that shows that you can eat delicious without meat. Most of the time veggie pizzas are boring. Not here. The base is thin, the ingredients are fresh, and the composition shows outstanding creativity!
The food was good but not special. The pizza was quite doughy and chewy and the pasta was more tomato than meat contrary to a traditional Tuscan ragu The reason for three stars however was the complete lack of organisation in the restaurant; from being seated, ordering to paying everything was an ordeal. I don’t blame the staff they were overwhelmed and clearly hadn’t been trained - there was no supervision. Also beware there are different prices for takeaway compared to eating in, however this is not clear and ultimately we were unwittingly ordering from a takeaway menu. There is no problem having different prices, however the takeaway menus should be clear/distinct from those for dining in.
This was such a pleasant surprise. Service was attentive, warm and friendly. But the star was the food. We ordered a marinara pasta and a medium seafood pizza. When it was served, we felt that the portions were huge and were convinced we could not finish it. The pasta was generously portioned with lots of minced beef in the sauce. It was suitably sweet and sourish which really helped to open the palate for a meal. Would go great with red wine. Pasta was al dente and perfect. The seafood pizza was another gem of a meal. Generous portions of seafood can be found in the toppings. Prawns, mussels, salmon and lots of cheese on a tomato based sauce. The crust was slightly curved and perfect and everything tasted just right. Suffice to say, we finished everything in this meal. Which is saying a lot, it was just done so well we have to finish it. Do note it only operates on Tuesday to Saturday with rest days on Sunday and Monday. Fantastic stuff. Must try.
Waoo, no words for the pizzas. We ordered one large Marinara and another large Aglio. Incredible, so tasty and made with love Staff very friendly! We will definitely be back... 5 stars cause it worth it.
The service was absolutely atrocious and unacceptable. As first time tourists to New Zealand, this was our first time experiencing such horrible service. I have to say that the experience we had at this restaurant has spoiled our mood tonight. The food was okay, but nothing very special like the previous reviews from 2-3 months ago said. We arrived close to 8pm today asking if they had any tables available. A young waitress wearing denim shorts informed us that the restaurant was full, so we had to wait. I noticed a sign outside the restaurant indicating that their operating hours on Wednesdays end at 8.30pm, so I asked her if we would have enough time to eat if we did get a seat tonight as it was already 8pm. She looked at her watch and said something along the lines of ‘oh, to be fair I didn’t realise it’s already 8pm’, then informed us that we would only be able to takeaway our food. We told her that we would be going out to check other restaurants nearby instead. At this point, an Asian family of 3 with a baby waiting behind us overheard our conversation with the waitress, and decided to head out of the restaurant to check out The Ranch opposite. After checking out The Ranch opposite this restaurant, we found out that they were fully booked and their kitchen would be closing at 9pm, so we decided to walk back to La Toscana for a takeaway. Coincidentally, the same Asian family of 3 overheard our conversation with the waitress at The Ranch and decided to walk back to La Toscana too. We went to the cashier at La Toscana and told them we wanted a takeaway because ‘there doesn’t seem to be any tables available’. Another waitress took our order and asked us to wait for 15 minutes. While we were standing in the restaurant waiting for our takeaway, we saw the above mentioned Asian family of 3 walk into La Toscana and get offered a seat. Their waitress even took their order and served them drinks! A couple of minutes after the Asian family of 3 sat down at their table and began drinking, a lady wearing a green jacket walked in and asked for a seat. She was promptly offered a reserved seat the waitress removed the ‘Reserved’ table sign before she let the lady sit down and the lady promptly had her order taken. The waitress wearing denim shorts then went to pick up the phone to call the customer who had reserved the table to ask whether she would still be coming!!!! We found this very odd as the waitress in the denim shorts told us earlier that they would only be doing takeaways from now on. I urge everyone to enjoy their meals elsewhere. Please don’t spoil your day here. To the owner of this restaurant: if you look at the 1 and 2 star reviews here, you’ll notice many of them mentioning messy, bad, and slow service. You really have to take a serious look at the way your staff have been trained and how they are supervised.
I was very stoked!! The taste was so delicious. It didn’t look that great at first, but the all the ingredients had own taste without that much sauce and very well harmonised. Only one thing I wanted to complain was that they did not answer the phone. So we had to go to the shop, order, and waited for a long time. However it’s worth it. Thank you for your food.
I don’t like doing poor reviews haven’t done in a loooong time especially when businesses are struggling. But no excuse for below standard food. Sadly the worst pizza and scacciatta ever… the picture of the scacciata says it all, with its 5 tiny broken bits of rosemary and cardboard texture. I’ve eaten amazing pizza and pasta in Dunedin at Etrusco- fabulous so I know what it’s meant to look like. I’m hoping this place raises its standards at 30 years ago you’d travel from the north island to go it was Ana amazing restaurant. However the girls at the place were absolutely lovely!
Appalling. Wait times are too long and completely unorganised table booking. Apart from the one young staff, rest were down right rude. Food was dry and tasteless. And wife found a hair in per pasta- yeah! Avoid avoid avoid.
I'm a little bit disappointed. The pizza was quite doughy, but the worse part is that my Aglio pizza was without basil, not even a single tiny leaf! So I just ate pizza with cheese and oregano - doesn't sound good, huh? I have to admit that I read the reviews about this place and I didn't expect miracles, but I hoped that the pizza would contain all the ingredients listed in the menu. Well, i wouldn't recommend this place.
Went with a large group who preordered and we were all served correctly and promptly. My Vesuvius pizza was the best pizza I've ever eaten. Spicy and different and tasty and hot. Even a M was quite substantial for one.Food: 5/5
