My first experience with Peruvian was pleasant with the friendly service and hearty food. Highly recommend ceviche del rey, as this citrus-infused raw fish dish is served with sweet potato and corn. It is very unique. I also ordered meat dishes which were served with bananas, potatoes, and rice. They didn’t impress me that much. Considering the location, pricing is okay.
AMAZING Peruvian food and extremely friendly and helpful staff. During my first visit I tried the beef hearts and fish ceviche which they made extra spicy for me!. I will definitely be back to try more! Wonderful atmosphere inside as well. Thanks for a good visit!
Service was lovely. We asked for suggestions to try and the waiter was very friendly in making suggestions. The ambience was lovely too. We couldn't make it to Peru due to covid lockdown so we decided to try the cuisine in Sydney. Everything we had was super tasty! The only con is probably the ceviche. It had wonderful flavours, but the fish was rubbery and the texture made it slightly hard to eat. Our butter Knives struggled to cut through it... but we will still be back to try more on the menu. The tuna cake and the chicken potato stew with rice was great.
A very relaxed, community feeling restaurant. Feels like going to your auntie's house for a meal. Ceviche de Ray - highly recommended. It's Sour, spicy, and the fish is fresh. Chicharon - pork was dry and over cooked deep fried too long. Lomo saltado - beef was a bit tough but the spice mix was good! The rice that comes with it was sooo flavoursome some might say heavy. The other Lomo saltado with the chips - the chips were extremely good! Fluffy in the middle and crispy - get it! Ventilation in the restaurant wasn't good so you'll end up smelling like deep fried food and hair smelling like BBQ meat. If you have asthma - might want to be careful.
The seafood stew was great on a cold wet day. Fresh seafoodclams, mussels, fish, baby octopus and prawns in a slightly sourish watery stew served with butter rice and a sweet potato. The freshness of the seafood makes this dish delectable. The empananda was slightly dry but tasty.
If you want authentic peruvian food you have have found the promised land! In a country starving for authentic Latin cuisine La Hacienda Peru fills those shoes wonderfully. They also have one of the most substantial Peruvian groceries in all of Australia so come in for some delicious Lomo Saltado washed down with a Inca Kola look no further.
There is a good range of meals on the menu. We particularly enjoyed the Lomo saltado a lo pobre marinated scotch fillet, onions, tomato stir fry served with chips and rice with fried bananas and egg. The restaurant only accepts cash on weekends. I don't carry cash anymore, but luckily my wife had some on her, otherwise things would have become a bit awkward as we can't withdraw cash without physical cards.
Great to find authentic, tasty Peruvian food in the heart of Sydney. Service was friendly and prompt and the food was delicious. Ceviche del Rey was tender, tangy and well seasoned and the Lomo Saltado A Lo Pobre was full of flavour. Atmosphere was lacking a bit, fans were on full blast but the dining floor was still hot and stuffy. Still, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some great South American food
Small business located on the corner of Sussex & Bathurst streets and I have been eating here for a long time as this style of food is unique. The price is slightly higher and I have uploaded the current menu, however given the location and only peruvian style restaurant I feel the price is worth it. Atmosphere has a good vibe if you enjoy some Latin music playing in the background while the restaurant fills up with those Peruvian spices from the cooking in the open kitchen.I have given an overview of the items we ordered on our most recent visit to give you a guide on what to expect. Anticuchos Beef Heart Skewers This is a great way to start the meal, the meat has been well seasoned and cooked over a grill. Served with a potato that tastes and looks like it's been oven roasted. A flavour bomb in the mouth and this is our regular entree that we order and it never fails. Bistec A Lo Pobre Scotch Fillet Steak cooked to satisfaction and we love this item cause it comes with a bit of everything. Salad is well dressed with avocado slices on top and a good serve of chips on the side which are crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Rice is dry and I recommend getting a runny egg to mix through, however the fried bananas are great! Tres Leches The Tres Leches cake is one item that I order everytime we eat here. Tres Leches cake features three types of milk: whole milk, condensed milk, and evaporated milk which is absorbed into the cake. It's topped with cream and cinnamon. An excellent cake for milk lovers! Helado De Lucuma Fruit Flavoured Ice-Cream This was our first time trying the Ice cream which is made from “Lucuma” a tropical fruit from Peru. The texture was a little icy, not smooth like a gelato. It has a nice flavour and is very refreshing on a hot summer's day. Inca Cola This is the most popular soft drink and for good reason, it's amazing and a must try on your first visit. Served in the glass bottle just like the good old days!
I came for lunch here a couple of weeks ago. Flavourwise the food was good, I felt like I was eating real Peruvian food, the flavours were nice. The restaurant vibes were great, well decorated with Peruvian vibes all over it. It was quite hot and stuffy inside due to lack of ventilation, but it was not so bad. I am disappointed on the serving size and the prices. I ordered "Papa a la Huancaina" and it was probably 4 to 5 tiny pieces of boiled potatoes with half of a boild egg, one olive, a piece of lettuce and sauce on top. Then, the ceviche size was not great at all for $35 dollars. I am not expecting a full plate but at least a little bit more than 2 table spoons of ceviche. I spent around $60ish overall by myself and I left still feeling pretty hungry. Would I come back? Not really. But I was feeling like Peruvian food for a long time and I had to give it a go.
