Al Farooq Mosque in Kuraby, Queensland, is truly a community center for Muslims from all backgrounds. The center's prayer hall is spacious and comfortable for peaceful worship.nnActivities at this mosque include various religious studies, programs for Muslim women, and youth. I saw many young people, both men and women, coming to the center to carry out their activities. They even provide funeral services, from washing, praying, and burial. Hopefully, this center will continue to grow and become a place of learning and empowerment for the Muslim community, making a positive contribution to Australian society in general.
As a revert sister attending the revert sisters’ Iftar during Ramadan, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I can be quite outgoing, but I’m a little shy in new environments, so I was nervous at first. However, I felt genuinely welcomed. As a caucasian Aboriginal Australian who struggles to find a sense of belonging among my heritage groups, it meant a lot to be included among such a diverse group of sisters—Indian, African, Australian and others—who were all warm and friendly. This felt like a place that I truly belonged.nnThe organiser was amazing and created such a welcoming atmosphere. I enjoyed it so much that I returned a second time and found a wonderful community. It was also beautiful to witness two sisters take their shahada last week.nnA fantastic mosque with a very positive and supportive environment.
In the name of Mosque and Allah I should say this but this is what j was made felt, as being a revert sister this mosque wasn't what I expected. I felt more like disrespected by main organisers. More like a cultural place rather then actual religious place where everyone is respected. You dont have same culture as ours sorry you dont belong here, this is what the organisers have made me felt there.
I have prayed at Kuraby Mosque regularly for many years. Unfortunately, many times I have had negative experiences there and I have never known how I could talk to someone to discuss the issues so I am posting here. Many times I have come to the mosque to pray - and the womens area is locked and/or the toilets are locked. Yesterday I came and the back gate is locked, forcing me to walk through the mens areas to get to the prayer room. Today the same thing. And today the toilets were locked too. It makes me upset and sad to feel so unwelcome and neglected.
Very nice mosque around muslim neighbourhood. Separate place for female prayers, air conditioned, car parks available. A lot of different Islamic programs are happening for different age groups including separate programs for girls.
