free museum. really liked the temporary exhibit downstairs that was centered around the black queer community. the upstairs exhibit was permanent and diverse. kieran gave an amazing talk about all the items on display. would definitely return.
A wonderful place to appreciate and learn about Aboriginal peoples' and Torres Strait Islanders' arts and artefacts. Learning about their history, culture and traditions is also eye-opening.. Visitors can also purchase some products made by Indigenous artists, which will directly benefit them and their community Love it! Thanks for organising such beautiful gallery/exhibition..
Was lucky enough to have the incredible Terri teach our cultural awareness training for work. It was inspiring seeing how much knowledge she had and how passionate she was to share it with our group. If only the lecturers at Uni that taught me so little about Indigenous culture had even just a spec of Terri’s knowledge and enthusiasm; it would’ve made all the difference. Excited to learn more about her beautiful culture. Also such a great centre, I never realised it was freely accessible to the public until today. Everyone was extremely hospitable and welcoming. Can’t wait to return in future, thanks :
I very rarely leave negative reviews at all, but this museum is quite bad, at least went i went to see it. The permanent exhibition was closed. No audio guide or personal guide when I visited. Very few pieces on display. What was on display was uninteresting. The NGV right next door has a much more extensive, more interesting collection. I apologize for the negative review. Everyone who worked at the museum was very kind to me.
I didn't know this beautiful place existed! Loved all the Aboriginal history, materials and handicrafts.
Great indigenous artifacts to see, nice layout and they had souvenirs made by indigenous citizens that were amazing!
Cool place. We hired a conference room. Glad we did. Great space for up to 60ish. Amazing Aboriginal artefacts and art. Loved the local language on the toilet door!
Beautiful sample of traditional aboriginal art and oral history. Some experts have stated that our species settled more than 30.000 year in this part of the world, so it’s interesting to see some of their items and stories that their generations learnt long before...
Especially loved the painting called "uncle" by Jessie walton
I had the pleasure of meeting Lucas, who shared some brilliant perspectives on the cultural significance of the items on display, techniques for using them, and what their purposes were. I learnt a lot. Keep up the great work, Lucas, thanks for the connection.
