I usually don't post negative reviews. I prefer to provide a constructive feedback to the staff for improvement and keep my google reviews to celebrate amazing places. But this time, I had such a bad experience that I think it needs to be acknowledged. The restaurant is so dirty. I wish I went to the bathroom and passed by the kitchen before ordering the food. I would have ran away. The meat was a really bad quality so much so that we barely ate half of it as we were worried to get sick. But the price was wagyu premium. The staff didn't ask what was wrong although our plates were full of leftovers half chew and took our $96 for the two of us without shame. It is definitely not the floor staff fault, they are probably doing their best. I do support local business and I understand that the past couple years have been tough for the hospitality industry, but the owner of this place should review their hygiene standards and pricing. This place needs a deep cleaning.
Food quality and the service is not that great at this price. The atmosphere is good especially with big open windows facing to the outside.Food: 3/5
Made a reservation for 6:30pm, and arrived a few minutes earlier. It was undeniable packed with customers that night. The staff were rushing all over the place, and had ignored us for a bit though it was understandable. We were finally seated when a staff came to help us out, and for the rest of the night, the staff attending to us were sweet, though I can feel the stress in their heads since it was so busy. My partner and I had the buffet, and we had ordered so much food that it was overwhelming. Everything tasted incredible, and not a bit of meat was left to waste. The cooking grill was a bit difficult at first. We had really thinly sliced meat served to us initially so a lot of it was stuck to the grill. All the other meats weren’t a problem though. Everything tasted so good, and we soon realised that they were using a very similar kind of sauce for all the meats we were getting. Not that it was a problem, because the sauce definitely made it taste better. There was such a large array of foods to choose from that it would be a lot better if you saw it for yourself, but I can definitely say there’s something for everyone, and its well worth it. The quality of the food is also exceptional. Would definitely come back again, and Id highly recommend to come here on an empty stomach so you can fully indulge yourself with this.
I rarely leave reviews on Google Maps, but my recent experience at this restaurant was so bad that I feel compelled to share.I ordered the special buffet and was disappointed to find that the prawns were spoiled and inedible, and the beef was of poor quality. So disgusting! The kitchen's sanitation conditions were questionable and I am now feeling sick to my stomach. I will not be returning to this establishment. In fact, after reading the last review, I completely agree with the sentiment that this restaurant needs a thorough deep cleaning.
Best Japanese bbq delivery during lockdown in Sydney east, highly recommend their premium wagyu, ox tounge, beef finger roll, porck neck, ray wings and all salads!
Sometimes these /5 ratings are about as trustworthy as a politicians hands under a banquet table. Here at the 4.1*koh ya, I can kinda see why some fellow eaters are not seeing the 5* scene. This is not Tokyo department store Japanese dining paradoxically excellent, but we are in the spot, randwick, which is let me put it kindly, not an epicurean epicentre. There's enough in the area that's good enough, and this place is at the better end...reliable, mostly Korean takes on Japanese food...which is pretty normal. The cook yourself options are fine, though they'd benefit from some pungent Korean sauces. The real stars are the more mundane menu items...seaweed soup, sashimi, and stone pot bibimba...all served as quick as said politicians hands, and at prices that work.
We tried out their entry point banquet. It's an experience, if it's your first time listen carefully, there are a few instructions and conditions; it's 1.30 hours long, you need to have sorted out the whole eating in that period, don't order too much or you could get a surcharge and you are going to BBQ everything yourself and smell like it too it is kind of confusing to start with and they don't give much direction or recommendation of what or how to do things! Having said that service was both friendly and pleasant. The location is child friendly in that they have a children play area, but you do need to make sure that they are not close to the actual BBQ!
One of the worst experiences ever in Sydney. Japanese bbq sounded a quick, easy and impossible to get wrong kind of experience: after all is just a variety of meat to display on a grill and wait to be ready. Unfortunately the poor quality of the meat made the dinner a sort of an horror movie with chunk of not well identifiable “corps” upgraded with wrapping papers served on a sad plate. The sea weed salad was an average mix leaves salad with some a sprinkle of exotic grass and fried shallots. To complete the “chainsaw massacre” kind of scenario when going to the bathroom you can witness one of the poorest level of hygiene ever recorded in modern times. A poor girl was dismembering some not better identified animal carcass on a random table without any sort of understanding of what she was doing. Appalling and horrific. Should be closed
Koh-Ya is a popular Japanese restaurant in The Spot at Randwick. Most of the tables have a gas bbq in the centre of it where you cook your own food. It’s a fun activity to do with a small group of friends. You choose raw food options from the menu which include Beef, pork, chicken and seafood. As well as some vegetable and side dishes like rice and salad.
The restaurant was quite busy. So, it is very popular & liked by lots of people. We chose alacarte. The service was very good; always with a smile. The food was hygenic, delicious & beautifully presented. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Japanese food.
