They have recreated the ambience to be very swish, the staff were friendly and helpful. There was a few people on training and it seems they are slowly catching up the Rhythm as there were teething issues like not having enough Vegan burger the staff were nice about it for the night for one of us and we had to go elsewhere eventually. Drinks menu was good and there are a few different atmosphere to explore. Hoping to have some great food and improve this review next time :
We enjoyed a family catch up at The Kingston and with 9 of us we had limited options available to us but given we wanted a sit down meal had to ask to be relocated from the more casual lounge area we had been assigned to the fancier restaurant out the back. In Doug so we had to squish on a table probably designed for less people so was pretty tight but at least we got a seat. Food was sensational. I had the calamari entree and went with the flounder which was delicious. There was a good wine menu that kept the table happy and service was good. I was impressed by the look of the seafood and beef pies on offer. Chunky thick and delicious looking pastry.
I’ve been wanting to come here for ages, and it was well worth the wait. We had a fantastic seat in a corner booth and could appreciate the architecture, design and ambience of this space. It reminds me of a Tom Dixon designed restaurant we loved in London. The food was great, and we tried a lot across the three do us… So we had both of the Brazilian pastries - I would definitely go for the beef one again! We had the chorizo and the morcilla sausages and the morcilla was as good as San Telmo! But so much closer to home!!! Pan fried Provolone which my Italian husband loves. I don’t think I’ve ever had it fried before and it works! I am keen to try the prawn cocktail now retro! Mains We shared all our dishes which was great with so many options to try. Ok the beef Wellington is divine -and could have easily eaten one to myself but it was easily shared across the three of us. We also ordered the Niçoise salad which was beautifully cooked rare tuna. The 6 jumbo prawns… Chips and their mac and cheese. Our American guest wasn’t too happy with that. We left very full indeed and enjoyed a couple of their cocktails too. The smoking negroni was pure theatre at the table. My dirty martini was perfectly dirty too! We also enjoyed a lovely Tasmanian Pinot Noir. All up walking away for under $450, so great value for the quality of the food and atmosphere on offer here. What really made our evening was the fantastic service! Our waiter Pedro from the moment we arrived, was perfectly attentive and happy to guide us through the menu and make some suggestions too. As a local, we will be back and look forward to a repeat of a great evening, and we can’t wait for summer to enjoy the outdoor space. Thanks Pedro for being together a wonderful night!
Thank you for the exceptional experience - everything was perfect. From the lovely birthday greeting on arrival, to the super comfy booth, attentive service and truly delicious food, we had a wonerful lunch. It's been a long time since I've struggled to decide between menu items but there was so much temptation on every page. Everyone loved their meals. For me, the Beef Wellington was exceptional - flaky pastry, tender beef and very generous portion size. Can't wait to visit again.
Have a great dinner at The Kingston last night. I've booked Maple&Pearls for the BD celebration. I was very impressed with the service and food. I will be back again for the next celebration.
It’s been a while since we dined at the Kingston and it was always enjoyable. The “new” Kingston after extensive renovation delivers three excellent spaces with great attention to quality fit out that provides a relaxed character and atmosphere to each space. We had lunch in Marble & Pearl, a refined dining room with a focus on Australian beef and local seafood, all cooked on a parilla charcoal grill. Even though it was the official opening day and finishing touches were still being applied, the service from the staff was attentive and friendly, and we were well looked after by Renata. The miso glazed marrow bone was excellent, as was the panko-crumbed John Dory. The retro prawn cocktail was nice but would have benefited from more prawn meat. The 300g O’Connor’s hanger steak from the parilla had a great depth of flavour and was served with house-made green and a red chimichurri on the side The wine list is well curated to match the food on offer and caters to a range of budgets. Will be back.
Super excited that our local bar is up and running with a very Luxe feel. Love the new look and menu. Cocktails by the fireplace is definitely on the cards again and again. Well done
The Kingston had a really good start for an opening night... Clearly the renovation is still a work in progress and some of the floors near the bathrooms provide an "uneven" passage. Renovation work aside, there is a feel of opulence which suits the menu and it is warm and comfortable. For a gourmet pub with premium prices the team need to focus on making sure the food is exceptional, facilities are clean and diligent service is maintained. The menu is large and ambitious yet there were a number of options including items from the wine list which were curiously written up as being unavailable. However the manager made up for this with his attention to detail and great customer service. The entrees were exceptional and items like Caviar offered a theatrical start to the meal and a once off dining experience. There were a number of teething problems including over cooked steak and a hair in a dessert, which on a normal night would have been grounds for serious complaints. With pasta dishes more food is often not a good thing. Aside from one overcooked steak the meat selection and flavours were terrific. Other diners in our group were less impressed and commented it all needs a lot of work. Overall we had a positive dining experience and will return after giving their team sometime to fix the opening night issues.
It was OK for lunch on a quiet day. I waited for a long time for an indifferent, rather dry chicken schnitzel, the fries and the salad were good. The 2019 Tar and Roses Heathcote Shiraz was excellent. I drank two glasses and took a bottle home.
Really great gastropub doing outstanding seafood and high end steaks. I had the lobster and truffle Mac n Cheese which was phenomenal - and while it wasn't cheap I think it was good value for money given the quality of the food.
