Nice shop for getting pottery and art. The jewelry is interesting as well. Always visiting when we are in New Plymouth. They have local artists as well as people from a bit further afar. The shop keepers are friendly and know most of the artists.

Myself and my partner have been long-time supporters of Kina and over the years have not been frightened of spending a few dollars to thousands on pieces of art, various gifts and jewellery. Upon a return trip to NP I purchased a lovely silver belcher bracelet ($183.00) with a paua charm around the end of November 2017. Within a day the clasp had broken, which was repaired/replaced within a few days. I then started to wear the bracelet from the 13th December. On New Year’s Day someone noticed my bracelet and commented on the tarnishing. Every link was tarnished at both ends. I took it off and never wore it again. I had the bracelet inspected by a manufacturing jeweller who advised me that the tarnishing would have occurred due the ‘silver’ used for the welding being of an inferior quality. Apparently there are various grades of silver solder. https://www.ganoksin.com/article/laser-welding-sterling-silver I emailed Kina to advise that I was sending the bracelet back from Australia on the 29th January 2018 enclosing photos and requesting a refund. I received a reply advising that the ‘artist’ would inspect the bracelet once received. On the 30th I emailed with the tracking number and copy of receipt for $18.86 AUD. In the meantime Kina received the bracelet on the 2nd February as per the tracking notification. I emailed on the 8th February enquiring. Luella finally emailed no the 14th apologising for the delay, that yes they had received the bracelet and she wants to get in touch with the ‘artist’. The 26th I received a response from Luella with the following: The jeweller has looked at the bracelet and has offered a replacement. She mentioned the tarnishing may have come from perhaps wearing the bracelet in a swimming pool, hot tub or some other type of environment that would have this effect on the solder. You need to remove all jewellery when showering, swimming etc. She stated to solder sterling silver you need to use another material that has a higher melting point than the material it is soldering. This is often seen as a faint dark line where the metal joins. As I have seen, as has the jeweller, there was more tarnishing than just a faint dark line and this is where she questioned the environment the bracelet had seen. Her professional opinion is that the bracelet has seen an environment that is not suitable for it, therefore has tarnished. This is not to do with the quality of any materials being sub-standard as you state. I have received a refund of the $183 and certainly no refund of my postal costs. Unfortunately Kina has seen the last of our money. I would like to comment that the silver bracelet that I have worn for over 30 years odd has never tarnished from showering, or anything else for that matter.
