As someone who has done a fair bit of travelling in my time, i've enjoyed some of the finest railway stations around the globe, having visited London's King's Cross station several times, and riden the U-Bahn in Berlin, Germany, I really do enjoy train travel. So whilst back in New Zealand the first thing I did was get on the train at Wellington Railway station and make the journey to the fabled Kenepuru train station that I had heard so much about on my travels around the world.nnGeneral: Kenepuru railway station is a station with 2 adjacent platforms, which are not well marked, yet an experienced train rider should have no trouble finding which side it is that heads to Wellington and which side heads to Waikanae. The platforms themselves are quite narrow which must not allow much standing room during rush hour, but the platform is long enough that people could move downwards should it be nessesary to accomodate more passengers.nnRefreshments: I walked up and down both platforms trying to locate a stall which sold refreshments, as my mouth was quite parched from spending a gorgeous day exploring the marvellous area. Unfortunately I was unable to locate a store, so I headed outside the station to Bell Street, hoping to find a store, I walked the length of the street, passing what looked like a store! only to find out, with much dissapointed, the store was an empty derelict building which still had signs up from the 1990's, which had now faded, like my mood. I walked a little further but decided to give up and head back to the station to find a refreshment stall on the other side of the station. I headed north along Kenepuru drive and must have walked 25 minutes before I found a service station at 5 Kenepuru drive, named Mobil. I now realised I had missed my train back to Wellington, and headed off back up Kenepuru Drive towards the station, and 25 minutes later I arrived.nnToilets: This station did not have any toilet facilities. I did notice a pungeant stench of urine in the stations shelters, and also saw a piece of human fecal matter just under the bench. But I don't think these were actual toilets.nnLighting: During the evening the station is dimly lit. It is enough to see where you are going easily, but also dim enough for potential attackers to appear from out of nowhere. There is no security at the station, nor can the station be seen from street view. So you're pretty much on your own. The famous tagline of the Alien film franchise is: 'In space, no one can hear you scream'. well the same is also said about Kenepuru railway station. It is advised to carry a taser or a can of mace with you if you are waiting here for an evening unit.nnVerdict: Despite the few minor inconveniences I mentioned, this is a very grand train station and probably one of the best in the world, I will be recommending this station to people with whom I meet on my future travels as the cost of a trip to New Zealand is compensated by the spectacular views offered from Kenepuru railway station.nnScore: 97/100
Sometimes a little dirty, but the broken glass has disappeared now there is no glass on the station to break. Smells vaguely of urine and marijuana
Basic but does the job. Close to Kenepuru Hospital
Kenepuru is a nice station not far from Kenepuru Hospital on the path from Takapu Raod station to Porirua station
