Went in because it was raining. What a revelation. A very interesting presentation on the Earthquake. We had to leave at that point was and given a pass to allow us back in later in the day if so choosing. We did! We spent another two hours looking round the rest of the museum. Well laid out without something for everyone. Cannot recommend this museum highly enough.

What a fantastic little museum - don't miss it if you go to Kaikoura. A very interesting mix of exhibits relating to the people, the place and of course the sea. Separate exhibit and film on the recent earthquake and it's effects. Created and run by determined and dedicated volunteers. Very impressive. Amusing snippet from one of the displays below.

If our whale tour weren't cancelled we would probably not have seen the museum from the inside, but such a shame that would have been. Very impressive collection, super friendly people, impressive earthquake exhibition: not a minute I felt bored. Enjoy Kairkoura, and make your visit complete with a visit to this museum. Very much worth it!!

The leaflet showed a young Maori woman, with the title 'Our Journey', so I imagined there would be an exhibition about Maori beginnings & life in Kaikora. Not at all. Its all about the colonials. Disappointed. The part about marine life etc is good. And the room giving information about the 2016 earthquake is good. I've given the museum a low rating because my experience did not live up to the info on the flier.

Nice little local museum with awesome displays of local history. Some very interesting stuff here, just a little disappointed at the price considering most museum are free.
