Have walked past a few times but today I was hungry so went in, friendly and warm welcome, small shop but large offering. I had no idea really what I was looking at but it all looked amazing, lots of options and I’m sure if you asked you’d get guidance. But I went with my eyes and I’m impressed, tastes amazing, seafood fritter was light and fluffy and hungi pasty was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Oh and I’d really good value for money! Kai means yummy food!!
Brought two $10 Mainese tasted like bestfood mayo and chop sui was inconsistent with other serving very salty, was a little disappointed with the portions but the quality of food was ok . Maybe use a smaller plate to the one in the picture.
I dont know if us North Islanders are just fussy or what but the kai was pretty average. After trying to configure Ubereats i quickly realised the full menu wasnt available on there. Was craving for fry bread as the cravings are real when your hapu lol made the drive in the pouring rain from the east. Went round and round in circles hoping to find a csrpark. Got one in the small complex and ended up being blocked in buy two other cars who made their own parks up behinde me. Got two Hangi, Maines, Cream paua, Raw fish & Ambrosia the first visit. There was a deal on at the time, get free fry bread with every Hangi. But got there and there was no fry bread as oil was getting changed and would take over an hour. Hangi had 2 chicken, a Chop, heaps of stuffing, 3 veg and 2 little pieces of cabbage. Was disappointed. Taste like it's cooked in the oven and was hoping to see Watercress as there's plenty around atm. Had to reheat once we got home. Maines was okay but very chunky. Raw fish was yuck and watery taste had to add our own lemon to it. Ambrosia was nice and Cream paua was onn!!! Would've been even better on a fry bread but heiaha..went in the next day to collect our free bread but rung ahead of time this time to make sure there was some that came with the deal and bought more. They were very nice, big , fluffy on inside and crunchy on outside. And got a steam pudding which was nice aswell. All in all, the kai is a tad expensive for the quality of taste, needs a little more love said with love definitely wouldn't be able to afford for my whole household. Carpark is an issue. But the service is amazing and friendly!!! There facebook page is always active and running new deals all the time. And they have since I trounced door Dash with full menu available. I always give our Maori pākihi the benefit of the doubt as we all have off days, bad days and good days so I will be back to try more kai before doing another review. Nga mihi nui
Went in for the first time today. I stood in the shop for about 5mins before I was even acknowledged. There were lots of workers who saw me there. Brought several hangi meals. Got home the lids/tin foil was not covering the kai and it leaked all in my car. The hangi was so dry and cold. Half of it was stuffing. Paid full price and had to heat our meals up in the oven ourselves. Expensive cost and was not worth it in the end
Uber service was excellent! The first order was a “paua pie” which I was so excited about! But when it arrived, for the price I paid for it it was a lot smaller than an average pie size! Although, it was absolutely DELICIOUS the filling was minimal which was also a little disappointing. I think perhaps change the name to “paua savoury” then at least whanau can decide if paying $8.45 is worth it. For me, amazing savoury but def not worth the amount charged for it.
Ordered A hangi, rawfish an hot chips tonight via uber eats. and Recieved 1 out 3 items was given the wrong order also the hangi tasted real burnt an it was cold and wasn't really satisfying unfortunately
Love kai means food always have the best experience when I go there! Hangi burger is the best and very big portion.
Went in for the first time with my girls and we loved what we had which was the hangi, boil up,frybread, potato salad and steam pudding so good told my whanau and they went in the next week to try for themselves and we are all fans
Went in over the weekend and got chop suey and mainese, definitely hit the spot. First time here and look forward to coming back again soon. Friendly staff and great food.
Flew all the way to Christchurch to find Heaven @ Kai Means Food Food is definitely worth the trip I don’t even have the words to explain all I can say is get to Kai Means Food they have everything to bless those taste buds and tummy I will say the Pāua Pies is the best pie I have ever had in the whole of NZ, and the staff are the most beautiful ladies who just make you feel at home, you don’t want to leave Keep up the great work KMF crew and will see you again on my next trip
