Great location, family vibe in the main bar area and has a lovely outdoor section with access to a private function room. We booked the wine room for dinner on a Saturday night. Dark decor made it impossible to read the menu, needed our phones for light. Extensive drinks menu, pub dining menu with a few of the favourites. We had the roast special and lobster risotto. Good flavours, nothing over the top. Staff were friendly and attentive, even when it got busy. Became very noisy as tables filled up. Recommend sound baffle and some lighting to read a menu.
Dropping my rating significantly. Had our reception here 12 months ago, so decided to return for our first anniversary dinner. Was promised that a table was booked for us it was not. Were seated in possibly the noisest part of the pub, facing the most romantic view ever Newport train station. Now to the food: the Saganaki was okay, but to be fair, it's fried cheese: pretty hard to stuff that up. Onto the main: my 'potato salad' consisted of potatoes with sour cream. That's not a bloody salad. The medium rare steak was closer to well done. My wife ordered the chicken, but with a side of potatoes as there was no potatoes mentioned in the menu description. What she instead got was some barely cooked chicken, roast potatoes and a side of chips??? The description didn't even mention chips, and even the waitress ran to double check the menu. The best part of this? The waitress offered us a free cocktail as if that would alleviate the bad experience we had this evening. Long story short: seriously reconsider special occasions here: you're bound to wind up disappointed
Gentrified pub with buzzy atmosphere and decent drinks but food average at best and portions relatively small by Melbourne pub standards.
Absolutely disappointed and felt disrespected tonight. Definitely ONE STAR for the Junction Hotel tonight! Brought family who travelled from overseas for a local pub experience here. We were truly disappointed with both the experience and service tonight. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes for our food to be served. We were ready to walk out tonight when the food arrived. I mentioned my disappointment to the waitress and asked for the manager. No one came around. In fact, a lady came around to tables around us asking how their meals had been and totally skipped our table, as though on purpose. I am unsure if she is the manager or not, but to be ignored is just rude. Even when the bill was paid, this experience was communicated and there was a very insincere apology. The excuse was that it is a busy night. Busy or not, please tell your customers so that we can decide to only have a drink or continue on waiting.
First time back tonight in a few years and was extremely impressed. The service was bang on point and efficient. Food was absolutely delicious - chalk and cheese to our families last few visits. Well done The Junction, you are our new favourite!
Made a last minute booking with the staff for 30 people out in the beer garden. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate the booking! Staff were amazing last night, super helpful and accommodating. Would highly recommend the junction for a big booking, awesome food great drinks and overall amazing vibe!
The area around Newport Station isn't glamorous. Parking can be a challenge, and the rail overpass lends a certain junkie vibe. But never mind all of that. Because the Junction Hotel truly is a gem of the inner west. Excellent food with a great selection of beers. If you're too fancy for beer, I'm sure they've got something for you too.
We had a great night here celebrating a family occasion. The food was amazing, the share dishes were perfect for that too. There is also a big function room out the back as well
Not too bad at all, really had a good time here, great selection of local beers and good service overall. Ordered the fish and chips, very well made, good wait to time for the food - will deffs be back! :D
Advertising roast with all the trimmings. You get a hunk of pork belly with slaw and a few potatoes and gravy. Where is the pumpkin, Yorkshire pudding, peas, roast potatoes etc ? Complete case of useless rubbish to get you in the door. As interstate visitors expect better. Just don't bother.
