Visited here from Melbourne more than 10 years ago when they first opened, and the beef cheeks sando is just as delicious as ever! The salmon bowl is to die for and the coffee is smooth and distinct! Staff are just phenomenal, friendly and top notch. Especially Crystal who is prompt and super approachable! Always a treat to return every time I visit Sydney!
We were was in there today for a late breakfast, and it is the best place we’ve eaten in Sydney, to date! On top of the food being delicious, the customer service was out of this world! We received great table service, ordering recommendations, and to top it off walked out of there with a great recommendation of a book store to attend later that day. Definitely don’t miss this stop if you are the Sydney area!!
The espresso and mocha were both top notch. As great is the chill atmosphere and good service. Come sit a bit if you need a recharge.
I visited this place for brunch last Sunday. The food is delicious and fresh, staff are exceptional. I will become a regular for sure. I would sit inside though because there are trees nearby and it’s getting hotter which means you need to watch out for creepy crawlies.Recommended dishesChicken Katsu, Beef Cheeks Sandwich
A local coffee place serving café style food. Only usually open for breakfast and lunch though. Popular with locals and has outside tables with dog water dishes for our quadruped companions. Coffee is good, limited menu and a great, inclusive atmosphere.Food: 4/5
Good sandwich! I had the BLT sandwich and it was really yummy!
Nice spot for lunch catch ups. It is busy at lunch time but you can typically get a seat inside or outside. Highly recommend their Signature Beef Cheeks sandwich which was delicious and filling.
Cafe John Montagu by day, Latin diner Juan Montago by night, this new entry is an offshoot of Yan Restaurant, designed to showcase the talents of their Colombian kitchen crew. The succinct menu is broadly Colombian, starting with well executed but pricy smoked beef empanadas $8/each with fresh chimmichurri and a mild chilli sauce. Four fried plantain fritters provide a good hand-to-mouth delivery system for snapper ceviche $16 that’s bright with lime and pineapple but wants for chilli. Chargrilled octopus $21 in a smoky dressing is nicely contrasted with juicy red compressed watermelon. Larger dishes are best enjoyed as shared between two with a couple of sides. We had sautéed prawns $35 in a coconut tomato sauce that really needed coconut rice $6. Stronger direction from the floor might have directed us away from the eggplant and plantain gratin $14 that clashed with it, and toward the very sticky-sweet rice. Green mango salad $13 provided a nice, fresh juxtaposition. Three milk cake $12 is milky, creamy and so sweet I was glad we opted to share our slab and still didn’t manage to finish it. Juan Montago is warmly welcoming, with the chef presenting our last dish, and enquiring as to how we liked our meal. Wines, like the 2018 Patina Chardonnay $45 from Orange NSW drink well for a reasonable price. The interior space isn’t overcrowded, with polished concrete floors and a classic striped awning, corner shop vibe.
Ordered eggs on Rye bread. The bread was the stub sides of the loaf and incredibly hard to cut into. Who serves bread stubs? Not worth the price. I just started working near there and had heard good things. A shame.
Best mushrooms w/ toast I've had, great drinks and service too. Definitely one of my favourite cafes.
