Story

Melbourne's thriving cafe culture is so heartening because it is evidence that Melburnians want to come together. Sure, we want fantastic coffee and wonderful food but there is something inherent in most of us that seeks out the company of others.

John Gorilla provides the stage for us to play out community. We have met people from all walks of life. We have seen the formation of life long friendships, cheered achievements and commiserated losses, celebrated weddings and births, and mourned at funerals and divorces. It has been our privilege to witness some very profound and intimate human moments.

We cherish fantastic art and design. We have collected hundreds paintings, sculptures and objects to put on display for people to enjoy at John Gorilla. We have a mural by local designer Beci Orpin. Many of our staff art artists and musicians and we passionately support them in their endeavours.
