Jim's is a real mixed bag. It has a storied history and has been winning dining awards for over 30 years. There is no menu but you're guaranteed to be served a selection of Greek classics. This makes the dining experience a little exciting, however, the quality of what is served can vary dramatically. The dips are delicious and the bread is freshly baked in house. But the Greek salad was one of worst I've ever had. The lamb cutlets and grilled chicken were perfection. But the desserts leave something to be desired.
As a fan of Greek cuisine, I was excited to try out Jim's Greek Tavern, a no-frills restaurant located in the heart of the city. Upon arriving at the tavern, I was immediately struck by the unpretentious decor and no-nonsense service, which perfectly complements the hearty, flavorful dishes served here. For around $70 per person, my group and I were treated to a delicious spread of tasty Greek food, with the highlight being the succulent prawns. The portions were generous, making this spot a great choice for larger groups looking for a satisfying meal at a reasonable price. One of the things that sets Jim's Greek Tavern apart is its BYO policy, which allows you to bring your own drinks and store them in the fridge. This is a great option for those looking to save a little money while still enjoying a fantastic meal. Just be aware that the atmosphere can get quite lively and noisy, but that only adds to the charm of the place. Overall, Jim's Greek Tavern is a must-visit for anyone looking for delicious, no-nonsense Greek food at fantastic prices. Just be sure to book a table in advance and come prepared with your favorite drinks. Whether you're dining with a large group or just a few friends, this spot has something for everyone.
A little crowded even on weekdays dinner. It’s my first time there because my overseas mates wanted to try Greek cuisine. Lovely ambience, old Greek decors and friendly staff. No menu and just follow whatever recommendation from the staff because everyone is having the same, appetizers, several mains and then deserts. I would recommend and definitely will revisit again.
Love this place, just been there tonight and I want to come back already. Freshest seafood I have had in a restaurant. Never been to a Greek restaurant before. They do not have a menu but they inform you that as soon as you arrive. They give you recommendations of what to order and whether you want more seafood or meat. These men know what they are doing. All the food tasted good, not overtly cheap but well worth the money for the quality of food you get. Food is on the generous side, you will not leave hungry. I will remember to bring a bottle of wine next time as they do not sell alcohol but do BYO. Till next time!
Beautiful Greek food, lots of variety of seafood and meats. My favourite was the seafood, grilled blue eye was melting in the mouth, big prawns full of flavour, and the fried calamari was fantastic. The fresh bread and dips were so yummy too. Poli Kala!!
We decided to visit on a Monday night at 6.30pm, and even then it filled up fairly quickly afterwards. There were no menus, however, the waiter was so lovely to give us the full run through of what was available. The breads and dip were a must. We also had the halibut fillets and prawns, which grilled to perfection. The calamari, saganaki and salad were also good. This costed about $130, which is not bad. Great community vibes and friendly service!
As the name suggested, you get to experience chill, laid-back, tavern-style dining. FOOD: It started with a delicious platter, bread, grilled prawns, over-grilled gooey cheese... then moved towards an extremely salty meat platter. BYO: is allowed. TOILET: The most disgusting female toilet ever with broken doors. I lost my appetite after using the toilet. It was so disgusting : STAFF: under-staffed just like anywhere else in Melbourne at the moment. COMMUNITY: This place has a sense of community. In the end, I still had a good time with the people I visited. Don't expect the typical restaurant experience within a hygienic environment though.
Terrible service. Grumpy waiters and there’s no menu or prices anywhere to be seen. We paid $107 for 2 people without alcohol and we ate very basic food. When we questioned the prices the guy says to us ‘you should have ordered a meat player and salad and it would have been cheaper!’. Well if we had been given a menu and the option, we probably would have. The quality of the food was good but I’ll never come back only because of the service and set up of the ordering/menu.
The food was amazing. It was the perfect mix of sweet and salty. The service was also amazing our waiter did forget us a few times but it was easy to forgive, our waiter was one kf the kindest people i have ever met. The atmosphere was also amazing it was busy witch i normally dont like but for some reason added to the atmosphere. Thanks a lot for the amazing experience Kid-friendliness: Very nice to children
Really fun restaurant with great authentic greek food! The servers just bring what they think you’d like to the table and it does not disappoint. Loved all the dips, seafood, and dessert . Will be back .
