The computers will switch of on you 5min before the closing time. I was uploading important documents near the closing time and lost it all. Staff is friendly and helpful but they will kick you out at closing time on the dot. The book selection is slightly poorer than the city library but the magazine selection is much better in my opinion. The environment is also more relaxed and better in general.

What's the hell. It's a library not a f**king child care centre for screaming grubs.

So I had a fabulous experience yesterday. At the time, I was confused as to why there were so many complaints. Well, let me tell you why. This truly is the screaming child library! Today I was on the third floor in the silent section and there was a child throwing the most violent tantrum I've heard in years. This went on for the better part of ten minutes. Staff disregarded the behavior as did the parents. So disappointing.

Lots of community programs and classes, and even better they're in rooms so they don't disturb everyone else (hint hint Doncaster ;) ) Other than that, it's a 50's or 60's building that's not long for this world. As I understand it council are going to bulldoze and replace in the next couple of years... which won't really be a bad thing. It's a bit run down. I think they stopped spending money on it a while back because they knew it was going to go. Toilets are pretty rank - go the the shopping centre down the road. Other than that it's okay, just don't use for Internet. On the plus side like all banyule libraries the internet is quite open, not too much is blocked by modern standards - you can even use security such as VPN. Sadly the internet only works every other day. You never know if it will work until you get there, how how long it will work for, but once it's down, it's usually out for a few hours, and the staff who have to put up with this almost daily occurrence can be quite snippy if you ask about it lol

I only go when I've got no other choice, but even then I still wish I didn't go in the first place. Firstly, this place has no/extremely poor air conditioning on hot days. More importantly, as many reviews have mentioned already, this isn't a library more than it is a children's play centre. One day I was there to do some quiet study when the big room upstairs had a kids PARTY going on with loud music pumping throughout the entire building and staff shouting this and that. I don't think I can call this place a "library" if it is going to be used as a party venue. Wrote a complaint and never got a response back. Also there are many quieter events taking place in the room occasionally, which is fine, but there are little to no seats available for people that come in just after the upstairs room becomes unavailable or for people who have to move. A disappointing library and a far-from-ideal place to study. Darebin library at Northcote is 100% better.
