Excellent care. My husband was admitted in June with Covid at a time when all Sydney hospitals were totally under the pump. I cannot thank the staff enough for their care for my husband. I was called by his doctor every few days to advise of his condition and when I called the nurses between this advice, I was always treated with respect and given good advice of his condition. It's important to remember the strain our health professionals are working under currently and thank them for the care they give.
Amazing staff. The nurses and doctors were all very attentive, caring and responsive. Everyone was really friendly and made the hospital the best place it could be with the care they provided. Special thank you to Dr. Spencer Wan and the nurses on Sunday Short Stay.
wife left waiting in emergency for more than 8hours without even seeing a doctor after suffering a seizure , i was told she was next on the doctors list multiple times after 7hours the doctor sent a nurse to check blood pressure and ask questions, how hard is it to come and talk to someone. ended up giving up leaving after removing own canular. Absolute joke of a place.
The Security Guard were the worst and the hospital should give some basic training…. I had an appointment in the birthing unit 6:30pm and after hours the south block doors do not open and when I asked the security he told me he can’t help me and I need to find my own way in, when I was told to go to security to be let in for my appointment… I was running around the hospital trying to find a way in when I finally got in by someone leaving… he would refuse to help me in any way
Considering how busy Nepean hospital is with COVID on top of normal business I received the best care firstly in Emergency and then in AC. I was seen, treated and transferred out of Emergency quickly and professionally. Every staff member I met was friendly and helpful. To be honest I was quite happily surprised at the degree of care given during these difficult times. Well done Nepean.
Please be aware of the lady in maternity ward C building A name Trudy old lady she is very rude to patients. We wanted to leave hospital without discharging the way she addressed us. Management should get rid of her she doesn't know how to talk to people.
Having given birth via c-section first time my discharge and recovery experience was terrible. Majority of the nurses/midwives who attended to me were wonderful, kind, understanding and patient however two midwives overshadowed the good part of my experience. They rushed the recovery process pushing me to walk/stand through severe pain & compared my experience to other women who'd also given birth via c-section. I raised this severe pain in every attempt but kept being rushed into moving & standing. I felt that my pain was not normal & explained this to the nurse also one of the two midwives who rushed me to move about who discharged me. She did not ask if I was ready to be discharged but said that I'd be discharged that very afternoon despite my struggle to stand and walk. She also advised that I should go down and wait for my pickup person at another part at the lower level which I then asked if she needed the room vacant immediately. She said they did not, so I told her I would not leave the room until my pickup person arrived. Not every woman's c-section pain is the same as I would learn that my struggle and pain was also due to a kidney infection which a lovely midwife who came for a home visit during the week of being discharged suspected by the way I described my pain, the way I struggled to move about and her experience with a similar mother she'd visited in the past. She suggested I call postnatal again and return to the hospital. I took her advice and called postnatal but was dismissed and it was suggested I visit my GP instead or go to ER and go through the process again to be seen. My GP came for a home visit and just as sure as the midwife had suspected it was indeed kidney infection. All up I was bedridden for up to 7 weeks upon discharge. Leaving the hospital, we asked if there was a shorter route for us, perhaps an exception to exit through the way we entered but we were told by the midwife at the desk that it wasn't possible. We also asked for a wheelchair but wheelchairs needed to be prepared for in advance so we were told. Not even halfway to the carpark I couldn't take it having stopped many times for me to rest, I called the maternity ward again and told them who I was and that I had just left the ward a few minutes ago and really needed a wheelchair. I was told the same thing, and to go walk to the closed volunteer information desk instead and they could organise it. My husband went to the volunteer desk and returned to say that no-one was there. Hesitantly and in pain we walked over together again and stood there for some time hoping someone would turn up to attend to the desk but to no avail. I called a second time to the ward and the same midwife who answered previously said she would try to get a wheelchair but that it might take awhile and to just wait where we were BUT then before hanging up said "but I can't guarantee a wheelchair..." Frustrated at the whole experience I told my husband that I'll just soldier through to the car park and what should have take us at least 5-10mins to the car became at least 45mins due to my struggle to walk. You need to have wheelchairs on standby. At a hospital I have never heard of a more ridiculous process than this. If you have access to CCTV footage I hope you can view my struggle during my attempt to get to the car park and get an understanding of the experience I had getting from the ward to the car park. Thank you to the team who attended to me from the moment I checked in, pre and post theatre team and the midwives who were compassionate and patient - I cannot fault them just because of the few who were insensitive to my situation.
My mum was in the oncology ward for 6 weeks. She had about 4 showers the entire time she was there 2 of which I gave her. The nurses said they didn't have time to give her a shower and opted for bed baths despite my mum requesting a shower. My mum was often distressed when I visited her in the mornings due to nurses not answering the buzzers during the night and the loud noises and talking they made during the night which prevented my mum from sleeping well. One nurse told my mum to go to the toilet in her pad. This was said in front of me. The jr doctor in charge of mums care was terrible. When mum was dying he would pat me on the shoulder saying 'not long now' in front of my family and mum. He never answered questions or gave us paperwork when asked during mums stay. I have a lot of trauma from what went on at this hospital. The only good drs were the palative care team.
All the staff were amazing & helpful. As for the hospital itself... completely confusing, shockingly non-existent signage as to how to find anything, coffee shop across the road Cafe Upstairs? Signage saying it was open and was a long walk to get there only to find it was closed. Terrible experience especially if you have someone elderly with you. A horrible place to manoeuvre around!!!
This place is a joke. Post natal and emergency being the worst. I’ve had so many issues post birth because this hospital I could write a book about it. Never being seen or give pain medications when waiting for hours on end. I’ve probably spent several days here just waiting if it was all added together. I’d honestly be better off being driven to the Northern Beaches hospital or Royal North Shore I’d be seen quicker even with the 2 hour drive
