Ingleside Bakery

About

Licensed Cafe, Bakery and Gallery

Story

Ingleside is a licensed cafe and bakery situated in the Georgian village of Evandale in Northern Tasmania. The business employs 18 staff and has been run by Steve and Jane Shaw for the last 27 years. The building is a classically designed former Council Chamber built in 1867 with a walled garden courtyard and a traditional Scotch wood fired oven. We have established a herb garden where we grow herbs and some vegetables to supply the cafe. We have excellent art for sale and a large selection of Tasmanian jams, olive oils, wines, sauces and gifts. We welcome dogs to come into the courtyard and have some excellent magazines to read whilst sitting by the fire with a freshly ground Bruno Rossi coffee. Open every day except public holidays.

We dined at 1:00 on a Monday. There were a few people present. We were served immediately and there were plenty of tables available. We elected to sit outside in the courtyard, which was rustic and comfortable. There was a wonderful herb garden at the back of the area. The food was served quickly and was fresh and hot. It was superbly tasty and the portions generous. The pricing was fair. The menu was extensive and there was beer and wine on offer. There were bakery goods, ice cream, toasted sandwiches etc. We had the scallop pie and a Reuben Toasted sandwich, then a Portuguese tart and a baked blueberry cheesecake. The coffee was also excellent. We recommend also taking the time to visit the shops nearby.
What a gem! Amazing staff, very cozy atmosphere with a fire crackling in the corner, and the pies... soft pastry on the bottom, crispy on top and the fillings are so fresh and warming. I tried a scallop pie, scallop and curry pie, and a pepper steak pie over two days of course. A fantastic bakery & cafe in a charming town.
Such a cool, funky place, especially to sit outside when it's sunny and pleasant. Lovely selection of things, and decent coffee. Cool little gifty things inside, and the coolest tallest door I've ever seen in my life on a house outside a castle. Really quirky place, and nice people as well.
A visual eye pleaser, falls short on substance. My friend discarded her gelatinous Custard Tart, while I seemed to have ordered the kid's scoop of Van Diemans Land's Salted Caramel -or they're just rationing the batch for other tourists, whom fallen in to the Evandale trap.
Great home cooked pies, smelt delicious the moment we got out of the car. The price hike from takeaway to dine in is a bit much at an extra $3.50 for tomato sauce and some lettuce but to be fair they do refer to this as garnish and not side salad. Tasty food and really nice outdoor area to sit and enjoy the sun.
We started our forage journey in Evendale at the Bakery... We were so impressed! The food was delicious and beautifully presented, dietary requirements were catered for and the fire made everything feel so cosy. But better than all that was the service we received from Corey! Such a wonderful way to start the day!
I just brought take away cakes, but they seemed to have a big range. Lovely big Cafe, and friendly staff. Would love to have sat outside in the courtyard if the weather was nicer.
beautiful bakery, lots of local produce on display, very spacious, very service was great but costed me over $30 for two toasted ham & cheese toasties with one take away coffee.. so a little expensive but a wonderful bakery
Busy, great bakery & the best sourdough I've eaten. Gorgeous open fire, beautiful garden & yummy treats. We had a filling breaky and good coffee. Great historical town off the Midland Hey.
Love this Bakery. It has lots of nice food and some interesting gifts to check out while you dine. A must visit if you are in Evandale.
