Story

Il pizzaiolo (Il. pit.sai.yo.lo) or "the pizza maker" is about creating genuine Neapolitan pizza.

The menu is simple and classic with strong Italian influences. The aim is to showcase and produce pizza the way it was intended in the tradition of artisan pizza masters, with utmost respect for the science behind the method and using only fresh and quality ingredients.

The owner, Francesco Deni, has been successful in the restaurant industry for over 22 years. The vision of 'Il pizzaiolo' lead Frank to further refine his expertise of Neapolitian pizza. He travelled overseas to gain exclusive certification from the VPN Association (Association of Vera Pizza Napoletana) or the Association of True Neapolitan Pizza. Th

The unique Italian atmosphere Il pizzaiolo creates with its vintage decor is really something to be enjoyed.

Absolutely love the Roman style pizza, especially the Friarelli. Definitely the best pizza I have had in Melbourne for some time. The owner is super friendly and chatty. Only wish they were open more often and also for dine-in, would love to be able to take some friends and family.
Best pizza in the Northcote/Thornbury area. And probably further than that too. And covid hasn't changed that one little bit! You can get now prepared pizzas ready for the oven, they take 6-7 minutes in the oven and taste mint!!

Yes, another pizza place. Is there room for another one, well, yes if it meets the expectations of a what a good pizza should consist of and this place does. It caters for all tastes and does it brilliantly from Vega options to meat lovers in a simple no fuss menu. All this comes at a premium price. If you are looking for bulk at low pricing then go to Domino's, however if you want a wood fired pizza made in a traditional way then you cannot go pass this suburban venue. It is busy and during peak times bookings are essential which tells you the pizzas must be good.
Incredible pizza and lovely staff. A spelling mistake on the wall next to us was annoyingly all I could notice once I spotted it but it could all be forgiven at the taste of that pizza! Highly recommend.
The best roman square Pizzas in town. Staff are awesome, and the Pizzas are even better. Great flavour combos with soft and pillowy dough plus a solid crunch at the base. Cheers @ilpizzaiolo for the awesome bite, hope to see you guys in Sydney asap lol
il Pizzaiolo has become our favourite pizza place. If you have never tried Roman style pizza, you have to. Every mouthful is divine - I get cravings for it.
Pizza is super. Flaky, fluffy dough yet still light. They do roman style pizzas which essentially is a pre cooked pizza and sold by the slice. Ordered 4 different flavours and all were amazing. Having travelled to Rome for a month and tried pizza from different restaurants everyday without fail, this restaurant is on par if not better. Place deserves more love. Did not meet the owner however staff were super friendly.
Frank is black belt in pizza making Now taken things to a whole new dimension with the Roman slice! My favourite pizza in Melbourne by far!
