Before associating yourself with this so called church I would suggest you do due diligence and research exactly what iglesia ni christo is and what it stands for. This self styled church was invented by Felix Manalo in the Philippines in 1914. This was when the church was registered as a "Corporation Sole", in others words a business or corporate entity in the Philippines which is governed and owned by an individual. This was following a supposedly enlightened 3 days when Felix locked himself in a room with a few notebooks and came out with his religious doctrine. This business has since been passed from father to son and now to grandson as obviously enlightenment only runs in the male side of the "Manalo family". This enlightenment has also made the Manalo's very wealthy and powerful in the Philippines. This business thrives on keeping its members ignorant by only allowing the bible to be interpreted for them by an ordained minster of the church. Sermons are delivered as instructed and prepared by the executive minister (whichever Manalo happens to be in charge at the time). This type of practice has thrived in uneducated cultures where people were unable to read for thousands of years as a means to maintain control of the masses. This type of control is normally reserved for cult type establishments or sects. This also ensures that dynastic Manalo control is maintained throughout the organisation. In our more educated world these days people are free to read the bible, the Koran, the teachings of the Dalai Lama or whatever other philosophy they find meaningful to their lives. Add education to this and we find we can understand and make our own informed decisions. In the Philippines although denied by the hyrarchy, the church expects a percentage of all wages earned by its members. What needs to be kept in mind is that most members would be what we in the western world would consider well below the poverty line even destitute. Another idiosyncrasy of this business is that when it comes to elections members are required to "block vote". In other words you are not free with your own democratic rights but rather will vote for whoever the church wishes you to vote for. In this way Iglesia ni christo lobbies politicians at election times. Lots and lots more interesting facts to be found if you dig a bit. Hope this was somewhat informative.
