I often shop here when in Freo, generally it’s a pretty good shop but last night bought a 600ml carton of milk that was nearly a week past its use by date. Wanted it for coffee in the morning so sniffed it and it smelt ok so used it then threw the rest out. Should have taken it back and complained but had to head out of town in the morning and didn’t have time. “Use by” date is legally that. It must be taken off the shelf by then. It is not the same as “best before”. If I see it again I will report it to the health department. I have noticed expired products on the shelf here before also at other IGAs - the much derided big corps don’t take this stupid risk. I only shop at IGA because it has convenient opening times and location. I should not have to maintain constant alertness to breaches of food safely. Lift your game
I’ve been shopping at this IGA for a while now and it’s honestly one of the best local supermarkets around. The store is always clean and well organized, which makes it really easy to find what you need without wasting time. The staff are consistently friendly and approachable and they actually greet you with a smile and are happy to help if you’re looking for something.nnWhat I really appreciate is the range of products. They stock all the everyday essentials but also have a great selection of fresh produce and some unique items you don’t always see in bigger chain stores. The fruit and veg are always fresh and the shelves are well stocked. On top of that the prices are surprisingly affordable and often better than other nearby stores which makes it even more worth shopping here.nnCheckout is quick and efficient even during busy times which makes a big difference. It has that genuine local community feel that’s hard to find these days.nnOverall a really reliable and welcoming place to shop. Highly recommend if you want convenience quality and friendly service all in one spot.
Poor product knowledge was to be overcharged twice because of poor pricing display by store and lack of knowledge by staff member then I have to wait twice between door dash pick ups and her having to do a price enquiry. When the lengthy process eventually was concluded, no there was more! She had missed ringing up the bag. And each time she had the audacity to be sour, tell me off and argue. Meanwhile my food order across the mall was getting cold. I’m not prepared to accept shopping to be so painful. Will absolutely avoid returning.
Please be careful when having coffee from their machine. I used to have a cup of hot chocolate there twice a day. One day, after I finished drinking my hot chocolate, I tried to put my used tissue in the cup and opened the lid. To my shock, there was a black spider floating at the bottom of the cup the whole time I was drinking it.nnFrom that day, I never visited that place again for coffee. The photo is attached—please have a look.
What an awfully ran store putting raw meat above other none meat items is not only an unhygienic look but is a well known hazard and obstructing a fire exit is illegal doesn't matter if it's easy to move or not. If they're overlooking such an easily identifiable hazard then what else are they being lazy on. Not coming back if the owner is going to be this lazy and put others in potential harm.
