I have been receiving lessons from Ian for going on 2 months now and I can't believe how far I have come in such a short time. I am happy to travel to Ian's for my 1 hour lessons as there are no distractions there. I find the cost of the lessons very affordable which allows me to have a weekly lesson which in turn has allowed me to advance more quickly. I am confident in Ian's ability to pass on his knowledge to me as he is such a competent player and performer in his own right, having had a full and illustrious career playing the pick of the international hotels in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Also having travelled internationally playing and performing for over a decade on the great cruise ships of the world. Thanks for your dedication to me Ian by writing arrangements just for me that suits my level of playing and bringing out the best in me. Tony

I have known Ian as a Piano Teacher for over 3 years and I was his student for nearly two years. I have also seen him play at a few functions and big events. Ian is a great entertainer and the audience loved him. I was very happy with his service and I must say he was always very well prepared for my lessons. I was very impressed with his teaching style and I started playing tunes in my first week, which was very motivating in my case. Ian is a very professional and encouraging teacher and makes you feel comfortable. He was flexible and available to change times at short notice with my own arrangements at no charge which was very important to match my busy lifestyle. I did my research and Ian charged me less than other teachers offered and often my lesson times were longer than I paid for. I truly recommend Ian as a piano teacher if you want to see good and quick results. Chris

I’ve been taking the piano lessons with Ian for 9 months now. I tried to play keyboard a little bit in my early years and had no more exposure to the instrument afterwards. I’ve always wanted to be able to play for pleasure and to impress my friends but I have never had spare time for it until recently. A friend of mine recommended Ian to me so I thought I would give it a try. I must admit I’m extremely happy about the progress I have done so far. I admire Ian’s professionalism, experience and skills + a lot of patience :-). I normally get bored with new things fairly quickly but Ian’s got that incredible ability to create interest and passion for music in people that makes you want to come again and learn more and more. Seeing results motivates me a lot. He makes every lesson unique and interesting. What I also like about Ian’s lessons is that he provides many notes as well as original arrangements when requested. Ian is very flexible with times which perfectly suit my busy lifestyle. He also often gives more time than allotted. Basically I would recommend Ian to anyone who needs inexpensive and professional piano/keyboard lessons with a lot of fun along the way as well.

I have known Ian McFarlane as a professional musician, composer and teacher for over 30 years. Ian prepares his lessons specifically to suit the student's requirements displaying empathy and expertise in equal measure. Thoroughly recommended.

Ian is an amazing piano teacher. He is passionate about music and shares that passion through his piano lessons. He knows what his students need to learn, understands what they want to learn, and is akin to their musical strengths and weaknesses. Through his extensive musical knowledge and years of experience, he is able to help his students achieve their personal piano music goals and improve their areas of weakness. I am currently a student of Ian's and have been with him for two years. In that time I've been exposed to different musical genres and styles, and been taught new and different piano skills and techniques that I have not learned before. This in turn has expanded my knowledge in piano, improved my playing, and helped me appreciate piano music even more. Ian is a patient teacher, is flexible, and charges a fair and affordable fee for his lessons. I get bored easily and sometimes find it difficult to learn certain pieces and skills. Ian's intuitiveness and adaptability never makes for a boring lesson. And he patiently guides me through each lesson until I get it. I work fulltime and Ian's flexibility has allowed me to make time for piano lessons and enjoy my lessons. Many a times our lessons have gone beyond the one hour allocated time. If you're looking for a passionate, patient and knowledgeable piano teacher who offers flexible teaching times and an affordable fee, I highly recommend Ian.
