The room is a spacious suite with living, sleeping & kitchen in one. There is a separate shower bathroom. I do have a small balcony but no real view of anywhere. Small swimming pool on the roof & spa pool. Really nice to have use of. The hotel is directly across the road from Hyde Park so a good setting. Takes around 30 minutes to walk to the Opera House, circular quays & harbour bridge. I'm here for 8 nights & knew there was no housekeeping there are some tea/coffee & toiletries. However, they did come after 4 days & changed the bed sheets & towels. There are no safes in the room but it is a very secure building & they did offer to keep anything really valuable in their office. Rooms: Very comfy. Huge bed. Air con & TV. Everything you'd need in the kitchen. Nearby activities: Too many to list but do recommend the Hyde Park Barracks Safety: Felt very safe walking at night as a lone female but did try & stick to the main roads. Walkability: 30 minutes to Circular quays, opera house & Bridge. Lots to visit closer too.
This was one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. The reception was fine except for the overpowering stench in the lobby, and I'd paid extra for parking which was tight but worked. The first surprise was when we stepped out of the very small elevator onto the sixth floor. There was garbage in the hallway, a dirty plain grey carpet that was more akin to a hostel than a hotel, and the hallway was in dire need of renovation and cleaning. Paint was scratched off doors and trim, and generally it all felt very grimy. The door to our room looked like a prison cell door. It had scratched off paint, no proper door handle, and a deadbolt key entry. Just awful. Entering the room, the first thing I noticed was the cigarette burn in the middle of the carpet. The carpet looked to be about 20 years old or so, and needed replacing. The room was fairly clean though and the bathroom was clean. The switch for the bathroom light was on the outside of the bathroom though, so at night, turning the light on light up the sleeping area and added to the things that prevented us from sleeping. The bathroom fan did not work either. Seeping was not easy. Most hotels in an inner city today have made some attempt at soundproofing their rooms, but the Oaks Hyde Park don't seem to feel this is desirable. We might as well have slept with the windows open as there was no soundproofing at all. Take earplugs if you're going to stay in this hotel. The Television set was small and mounted on an arm on the wall that looked like it could fall off at any moment. Certainly not a professional job installing that thing. On the plus side, the wifi was good and the location was good for us. Overall, I would not recommend staying in this hotel. There are much better options available for the price.
Stayed on level 3. The hallway area outside of the room to the lifts smelt absolutely foul and musty, a mixture of strong cigarette smoke and rubbish, as if people had used it as a smoking area consistently. Room was fine although we looked directly over an office area and outdoor seating area, so people could be noisy out there. Very loud air conditioning system. Tried to charge us on arrival even though we'd already paid.
A little disappointed when we arrived as there was no balcony or 2 bathrooms which I had been led to believe there would be by my travel agent the photos on the website certainly did not reflect the "recently refurbished" advertised However the rooms were serviced each day to a highstandard, the staff were friendly and helpful, the Oaks is very central with easy access to the city, supermarket and restaurants. The pool is definitely a huge plus . I can understand the slight disappointment between the website and reality. My family and I however had a wonderful holiday and this was due in small part to The Oaks
On the first night we got a room where the AC didn’t work. It was hot and very stuffy at least 28C inside. The next morning I went down to reception and they said “oh yeah, that one always breaks down, we’ll give you another room ” Not great with my parents and kids there. Luckily the new room had a washer and a dryer as we wanted and did not get in the original room. The hallways are run down and smelly. We were unlucky with quite terrible neighbours running down the halls screaming and slamming doors in the middle of the night ‍ The extra bed we got was broken so I ended up sleeping on a mattress on the floor. That was more comfortable than sleeping in the ditch that the bed frame created. Most of the staff were nice but you do need to be proactive and ask for things to get done. The lighting in both rooms was very bright white so not ideal for a cozy night in. The parking garage is extremely narrow. I managed to get out in one go because my dad was spotting me. We had about 2cm to spare in a Subaru outback.
We were attending a city wedding, so booked a Studio Apartment & a parking space just for 1 night. The foyer was clean & appealing & we were greeted with a smile. Our room had a kitchnette too was spotless, comfortable & had all we needed for the night. Aircon was excellent & allowed us to sleep well in the comfy queen bed. The only thing we found lacking was the lifts, that were slow & noisy & the parking was very tight, but in saying that, it wouldnt stop us from staying there again as the location was excellent! Walkability: The Oaks was walking distance to Hyde Park, The Sydney Museum, Oxford street shops & cafes, Saint Mary's Cathedral, and the city.
The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and nice linen. Rooftop pools were really nice. Rooms were quiet. Some reception staff were a bit disinterested. Rooms are very worn and must be due for renovating. It felt pricey for how worn the rooms were. Safety: Felt very safe walking around the area and Hyde Park. Walkability: Easy walks downtown, to buses and museum train station Food & drinks: The Thai restaurant in the bottom of the building was very authentic, well priced and delicious.
The Indian staff manager is the rudest I’ve ever meet! very unprofessional person, most words that come out of his mouth was swearing after swearing after swearing in front of my children. The worst hotel experienced. Me my wife and 3 of my young children are so afraid during our stay because of this man. Yap! Non refundable hotel. The hotel manager just ruined our 1 year plan holiday in Sydney.
I can't believe this is an Oaks. They are normally nice apartments, but this place was feral. The most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in. The bird feathers and mouldy ceiling were just the tip of the iceberg. Luckily I got a refund and was able to go stay somewhere else Whatever you do, don't stay in room 801!
We have stayed at this location a few times in the last ten years. It is very central. The rooms are a bit tired, the whole place needs a refurbishment but at the price its really great value.Rooms: 3/5
