It was some years ago, but it still stings. As a company director I was personally annihilated by principal Adrian Sibbick in front of my colleagues for questioning an error Hudson made in handling our company financials. Here are the details: Hudson’s staff were incompetent and sent our company financials to the wrong email address. They were out by one character in the address - a common misspelling error. I picked up the error and alerted them, and asked them how long it had been happening. Sadly they couldn’t even see, let alone appreciate the possible implications of their error, despite my repeated attempts to explain it to them, which just seemed to get them more and more hot under the collar. They just didn’t understand and kept jumping to the wrong conclusions. Our company the two directors including myself and our Finance Manager had an appointment with principal Adrian Sibbick scheduled for the following morning. I wanted Adrian’s assessment of the extent of the issue and wanted to discuss damage control. When we arrived, Adrian very rudely asked us what we were doing there and summarily tossed us out on the street, but not before giving me personally a good dressing down for upsetting his staff. I had simply tried to explain the issue to them half a dozen times and got nowhere. I’ll admit I did get frustrated by the end of it as it was utterly comical, like ‘Who’s on first?’. I am still upset about how he treated me. He was incredibly rude and irate, gave no credence at all to my legitimate concerns about our private information being out in the open didn’t really even give me the chance to voice them, and completely embarrassed me in front of my colleagues by targeting me for character assassinating. I was told I was ‘too demanding’. Well I guess I was, as I expected basic competency and taking responsibility! We never got a proper assessment of the extent of the issue, nor did Adrian/Hudson take any responsibility for anything at all or do anything to address the issue. Actually I don’t think Adrian even fully understood what we were concerned about; I think he thought it was a trivial white lie I had questioned earlier that Hudson had made on an official report to the government. The lie Hudson put on the report was about having had a meeting we were required to have at a particular time and place that we never happened. I had questioned the need to lie, because we easily could have actually had a meeting if Hudson had alerted us to the need to have one, and I don’t like to be asked to sign off on lies at any time, and especially as a director of a company. I would have liked to have actually had such a meeting - I was new to being a Company Director back then and would have appreciated it. Adrian told us in no uncertain terms that our business was unwelcome there. Hudson did nothing to assist us to transition to a new accountant luckily our accounts were all on Xero. I sent the staff flowers that afternoon to apologize that they were upset, as I felt bad about it. That was the first and only time in my entire career that I’ve needed to do such a thing. In fact, I’m particularly noted and sought out for my ability to communicate & work well with people across all areas, but the level of obtuseness of these people was really exceptional! In summary, if you are looking for a competent and professional accounting service, this is not it. Writing this review is the carthasis I need to get this out of my system, hopefully for good! To Adrian if he reads this: there’s really no need for such personal attacks, keep it professional. Memories of business gone wrong fade in time, but people don’t forget personal attacks, even 10 years later.
