I had a good experience at this hotel. The rooms were very clean, and I always saw the housekeeper in the hallways. They were very kind and gave us a discount for parking. For a moment, I almost got swayed by the reviews, but I believe they now have a new and better management. Congratulations
You can tell this building was previously to be a lovely hotel with beautiful original features. The features are still there and they appear untouched since the 70s. No toilets on the first floor where the kitchen and social areas are so you have to leave the floor just to use the toilet or go all the way back to your room. They said toilets were out of order but it’s clear they have never worked. Bedding looks suspect, I had no issues though. There is 24 hour check in, staff are friendly and attentive, the location is excellent and there’s plenty of capacity in the social areas.
I recently stayed at Hotel Waterloo in Wellington, NZ, and it was one of the worst accommodations I've ever experienced. The place is old and run down, with small, noisy rooms. The fifth floor, where the laundry is located, resembles a scene from a horror movie. It felt more like social housing, with individuals who appeared to be under the influence wandering the hallways like the walking dead and smoking pot.nnAt 3:30 AM, strange men were trying people's doors, creating a very unsettling environment. This hotel seems to house men who have nowhere else to live, making it an inappropriate place for families with children.nnThe communal kitchen was disgusting, with fat dripping from the range hoods and food disappearing daily. There are only two old stoves to service everyone, one with a door that doesn't close and the other with only one tray.nnThe young girl at reception was rude and seemed indifferent to the guests' concerns. Parking was also a nightmare, with expensive council parking and parking wardens constantly patrolling the streets.nnTo make matters worse, the place does not have a fire sprinkler system, so you stay here at your own risk. Overall, Hotel Waterloo in Wellington is the worst accommodation I've encountered in New Zealand. Avoid it at all costs.nOn a plus side it must be handy for the Wellington police to find who they are looking for all in one spot
booked this hostel mostly for the fact that it was so close to the bus station and ferry. saw that they didn’t have any rooms online but i still chose to go in person after my bus ride there to check and they actually had some rooms available so i got pretty lucky. i think their website should be more accurate though. compared to others, i actually loved how old this place is. it could definitely use some updates but it has a lot of character, big common spaces, and the shared bathroom was nice. i also didn’t understand the reviews about it being dirty until one of the housekeepers came into my dorm to clean the beds. from watching her routine i came to find out that they only change the pillow sheet and flat sheet, leaving the duvet and fitted sheet still dirty between guests. this was definitely pretty gross as i was laying under the bedding at the time so i would definitely use your own stuff. the location of the hostel allowed me to really enjoy wellington though and i spent a lot of my time walking around, going up the cable car, and even stayed an extra night to be able to do more in town.
Very convenient local right next to the station, ferry port and all the shops. The rooms were OK and nicer than expected. Very limited WiFi so not ideal if you work from home, however the maccies underneath gives 3 hours free WiFi! Overall a good experience.
