We had a family room for one night. The staff are amazing, friendly and made us feel the most welcomed since we had arrived in NZ from Australia. The food is second to none. Shared amenities but not an issue. Very clean and comfortable. Would definitely visit again when in the area.Food: 5/5
Overnight at the hotel with dinner. The room was spacious, but warm with no air conditioning. The shared bathrooms were clean. Noise from the bar area downstairs kept me up late, but this was during holiday time and may be expected? Staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking limited. An okay birthday experience.Food: 4/5
The decor is a bit dated but nice enough. The menu is what you would expect in a small town and it was delicious. We enjoyed our meal there. It's under new management and is a step up from what it used to be.Food: 5/5
Friendly and chatty staff serving meals and drinks. Delicious mussels and pork belly and chips. Just a little bit too salty. Normal chef was away, we were told. Huge TV is ideal for watching the All Blacks.
Char bacon tasted burnt. Banana well over cooked. Maple syrup drizzled all over plate instead of in a dish to put on pancakes. Pancakes only good thing. Husbands breakfast missing hash rows. Disappointing. Server was great though
Stayed upstairs one night and had dinner. Only given 3 stars as the hot choclate was luke warm. Credit to the owner who gave us a refund and offered fresh ones. 5 of us for dinner, meals were ok. The rooms need a spruce up. Bit of a tight squeeze getting into the toilet space, hard to turn around. Old style rooms due to age. Staff are friendly, owner was helpful. Other guests who used the kitchen upstairs made a mess, not a great sight in the morning. Not fair on the hotel cleaners. Stinky bacon an egg made from the previous night.
The staff were not welcoming accomodating and down right lazy! We waited an entire hour for our meals had to go ask when they were coming, we had a child with us and they bought out her kids meal last on top of that. No apology no follow up that food wouldn’t be far away..they weren’t even at the bar we were just sitting in the place by ourselves, then we saw a staff member sitting out by pool table eating her lunch while there was a table that hadn’t been cleared of dishes and old food. Went up to the bar to ask for takeaway containers she said hangon she had to sort an order, then left bar never came back out or didn’t bother bring any containers, wrapped our food in napkins and left, will never return just sad, and we supported because we heard it was maori owned. Unacceptable treatment just pure laziness and no care at all.
Would massively recommend this pub for anyone travelling through or stopping in Matamata. Great food, gaming lounge, pool table, drinks and accomodation. It’s got everything you need right in the heart of the town!Rooms: 5/5
We got a room there. If you're a clean freak like myself, I wouldn't recommend this place. It's not worth what we paid for it. No TV, no wifi, it's quite rugged. But that's just my opinion. I have stayed in much nicer places for that price. There atm machine downstairs ran out of money. Enough said.
Very impressed with the food here. Group of 15 came in for lunch last Friday, we ordered our meals 10 minutes before the kitchen closed. The food was excellent! Decent portions, well presented, perfectly cooked, and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend having lunch here.
