I’d like to give some feedback about my experience using the Justice of Peace service at Hornsby Library today.nnThis was our first time having a trust document certified. When we were called, we had not signed anything yet, as we were under the impression that only the four trust pages needed to be witnessed in front of the Justice of the Peace. However, we were informed that all pages needed to be certified.nnWhen asked for the original documents, we explained that the documents were from our account and that we had electronic copies and supporting emails as proof. We understood that electronic documents may not be accepted as valid originals, so we agreed to complete a statutory declaration instead.nnThe Justice of the Peace asked us to step outside the room to fill out the statutory declaration form so she could assist the two other people waiting. We complied and completed the form as requested.nnWhen we were called back in, the Justice of the Peace said, “Oh no.” I asked what had happened, and she responded that we had already signed the statutory declaration. What we fail to understand is that we still had additional documents to sign in her presence so she could properly witness each of us signing our respective forms, along with other documents that required her witnessing. Despite this, she informed us that she was unable to proceed.nnThis was very disappointing, particularly as we had been asked to leave the room to complete the form. If it was essential that the statutory declaration be signed strictly in her presence, it would have been helpful for this to be clearly communicated before we were asked to step outside.nnWe felt confused and discouraged by the experience and would appreciate clarification to help avoid similar situations in the future.
Our local library closes at 5pm on Fridays. I came to this one afterwards. It had a big space and nice settings. Unfortunately, it was way too noisy. People were chatting in the library naturally without feeling any embarrassment. It’s a shame that such a nice library is ruined by people who use it. Somebody should teach those school kids manners in a public library. I love my local library, very quiet and cozy. I probably won’t come here again.
I attended Hornsby Library on 1 February 2026 around 4:00 pm to use the Justice of the Peace JP service for an affidavit and annexure cover pages. Although the overall bundle was larger, only 15 pages required witnessing, which was within the stated 20-page limit. This related to my court matter against the NSW State: Charlie Armstrong Adams v State of New South Wales 2024/00399218.nnAfter initially being number 5, I was asked to step aside to accommodate others and waited as number 17. While waiting, a library staff member named Rhonda repeatedly discouraged me from remaining in the queue, citing the 20-page limit, despite not being a JP and not understanding that only annexure cover pages required certification.nnWhen number 17 was called, the JP declined to witness my documents, saying her service time had ended, even though other patrons were still waiting, there was no announcement that the JP service had finished, and the JP remained on site and appeared ready to continue assisting others. At that point, Rhonda again intervened, told the JP that I had “asked my question,” and urged me to leave, despite the fact that my documents had not been witnessed and I was properly queued. When I calmly requested the JP’s registration number so I could make a complaint, this was refused, and I was effectively blocked from obtaining the JP’s details. I remained calm and respectful throughout.nnThis is not the first time I’ve had this issue. I previously had a very similar situation at Hornsby Library involving library staff member Peter and JP Mr Yip, again connected to the same case. I also had an almost identical experience at Green Square Library, again linked to the same case. Because this pattern has occurred across multiple public libraries, I’m concerned about repeated obstruction of access to a JP service.nnI have now lodged a formal complaint with Hornsby Library / Hornsby Shire Council. I genuinely hope this is not connected to the fact that my litigation is against the NSW State, because public services should operate fairly and without bias, regardless of who a person is in dispute with. I would appreciate knowing how long complaints of this nature typically take to be addressed, and what steps are being taken to ensure the JP service operates fairly, transparently, and without staff interference.
Loving this library. Friendly staff and well designed facility. They have resources that suits all ages and needs from books, puzzles, baking tins, STEM toys, meeting rooms and more. Very spacious. If only they could open late every night.
Completely remodelled! Spacious and surprisingly they have Discovery Space with STEM kits to explore. Seats are nicely spread out throughout the library.
